advanced area portals

I am looking for a tut, or if one of you guys could post some tips.. on area portals.. I know how to do one with the door opening and closing, but my rooms are more advanced with breakable walls, vents windows.. i need an area portal tut for advanced situations.

For a room with windows and door just cover any hole in that room with a 1 unit thick area portal brush.

Think of that room as another mini map and the area outside it is the "void". The same rules apply.
 
Limp, what about the settings of the area portals? like some rooms have doors windows and vents, even some rooms the walls can break opening up another room.. would there be an area portal for the breakable wall?

This is what happens any time i create area portals

And they are 1 unit thick covering the whole window, and also a door.. i also tested making them the thickness of the window/door.. are they supposed to start open or closed? do they need to have a "door" linked to them?

ok there was a leak in my map.. and i fixed that.. but my portals for the room are all open, how do you attack an area portal to two door that are connected? jsut use two seperate area portals?
"they are kitchen doors that both swing in and out.
 
You'd have to use one big area portal covering the hole, and then have it take the state of one of the doors. You couldn't break that areaportal in half.

And to answer your other questions if you didn't figure it out yet.
For places like windows they should start open. If they will be where a door is cover the opening and start it closed, name the door, and then link the areaportal to the door with the name. If its a free swinging door it'll have to start open. With place where you will blow out the wall you'll need to put an area portal over the hole that will be made.

Its not a perfect square that will be made though, its kind of like a 3 dimensional cross.. an irregular shape.. do i just make a big areaportal block to cover it all? or make a bunch of small ones.?
 
It should be ok if you put it inside the areas of the wall that stick out, thats what I did with mine and I've had no trouble
