click on "View Magazine Now"

I rather liked the format even though they take a concept the auto industry has been using for awhile now, it's nice to see it applied to an online magazine (saves me $10)

btw I'll shamelessly plug Age of Conan (main article of the magazine) cuz it's the game I'm looking forward the most ..but there's also other interesting articles

I really want to see the day that a MMO beats out WoW, maybe not in popularity, but in overall goodness? Why? Because I am a diehard WoW Fanatic? Not quite, but that means that its going to be one hell of a game

I would die to play a MMO thats better than World of Warcraft =)

the only MMO that will dethrone WoW will be a starcraft MMO :E

WoW is popular because it's as mainstream a MMO as is possible and had a huge following prior to becoming a MMO ...only a recognised IP (and only a video game IP, movie IPs dont have the same draw (SWG, MatrixO)) with a built in audience ...like a MMO based on Half-life (ooohh that would be awesome)

but look into Age of Conan ..it has real time combat (no clicking button, watch animation), mounted combat, decaptiatations, seige warfare, city building and best of all it's low fantasy: no cutesey stupid gnomes or elves running around with oversized rediculous armor/weapons .....did I mention there's drunken tavern brawling that depends on how much/what kind of booze you drink ..and you can even smash people with chairs, mugs etc

Sounds too good to be true... and most of the time... it is. Take S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for example.... /cry

I'm waiting for an MMO not set in space to abandon idiotic Everquest conventions like tanking, aggro, and grinding. In my opinion, Starwars Galaxies came the closest to grasping the potentials of the genre, but failed (quite miserably) due to some awful development and post-development decisions. From what I've seen games like Age of Conan and Warhammer Online look like more of the same.

yes there is no guarentee ..but here's leaked video of the beta

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEndk3fElu4

it looks promising

here's the best video that shows the features of the game

here's the HD version of the video

edit: Age of Conan and Warhammer couldnt possibly be more dissimiliar ..Warhammer is a WoW clone ..Age of Conan is unlike anything else on the market it's all real time combat (archery for example is more like a fps than WoW's click button and watch arrow fly; you actually have to aim)

AoC wont be a game I can play with the lady though :)... glad that WoW is attractive to both sexes at least =-)

bah womenz are for bedding not gaming! ;)

oh and there's quite a few women members at the AoC community site ..3 in my guild alone (which has about 20 members ) ..one is actually pretty hot ..the other two are "meh" and "dear god no"

Some time ago I read a preview in Computer Games (A magazine I trust) and they made it to be another of the WoW babies; only making note of the level of violence which sets it apart. I was less than interested. If the combat is trully real time, however, I'm definately going to keep an eye on Conan.

watch the videos, it shows off all aspects of combat ...from hacking enemies from horseback to a catapult firing on oncoming player controlled npcs ..the lore is what drew me in but the combat is what's most exciting ..pvp should be fun, especially seige other guild controlled cities

FPS skillz = pwnage

heh ..wait till they announce a xbox360 version ..pc gamers will be able to play xbox360 players = more pwnage :)

ohhhhhhh sweet hahah. I seriously want to play some X-Box kiddies in a good game of Halo or CS or something. But really, its not fair at all for them.

you'll get your chance soon enough ..Shadow run will allow xbox360 gamers and pc gamers (Win Vista only) play together ..and same goes for Halo 2 ..both are Vista only games

Sorry but I have to take issue here. Games Workshop have been publishing Warhammer games since 1983 and it has always used the same archetypes as seen in the Warcraft series. Making WoW the imitator, not Warhammer.

WHERE THE HELL HAVE I HEARD THAT MUSIC BEFORE!?

I don't know, but I'm liking it. As well as the format of the whole thing - definitely something major magazine publishers should be considering like PC Gamer.

So if it's free then wtf? PC Gamer would have it be a payed subscription and that wouldn't be the same thing. I think they even already have PDFs you can buy.

This AFK online magazine may be free, for now at least, but I'm sure if PC Gamer followed in the same tracks there would be a monthly fee.

Well then that's completely different.

This is like the first big free online magazine I've seen, I've already seen lots of pay ones, so if you say "PC Gamer should do this" I figured you meant have a free online service.

The only difference is that you would have to pay, otherwise they'd practically be the same. If you noticed I said "the format of the whole thing", as in the appearance and layout.

But then noone would buy subscriptions?

they could sell advertising just like the print mags do ..except the lions share of the revenue generated wouldnt go into printing costs like it does in print mags ..it could do quite well

well actually I meant the game play not the setting
