The whole idea reminds me of Samurai Champloo... which was an awesome anime series btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-akqHQW-rAQ (just a AMV, no plot but cool fighting scenes from the series)

Afro Samurai
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Afro Samurai is a Japanese dōjinshi manga series, created by Takashi Okazaki, originally featured in the Nononhow dōjin magazine, which has adapted into an 5-episode anime television series, produced by Japanese animation studio GONZO, and set to air in November 2006.

The anime series is set to feature noted American actor Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of the titular character, as well as one of the co-producers, and will also feature Wu-Tang Clan member RZA as the provider of the original musical score.[1] The series has been slated for 5 episodes and is set to air across the United States across Spike TV and Japan on Fuji Television. The series has also been licensed for North American distribution by Funimation, whose first DVD release is planned for early 2007. In August 2005, Japan-based game developers Namco announced they would be releasing Afro Samurai-related video games across both Japan and America.[2]

SAMUEL L. JACKSON!!! what else needs to be said?

I remember watching the first 2 episodes of Samurai Champloo ages ago, but the music was so bad that I could barely stand to watch it.

The animation looks awesome in that Afro Samurai anime, but SLJ's voice at the end kinda sounded like it was recorded in the wrong type of room and didn't quite fit somehow. Maybe just me.

Nah, I agree with you about the end of the trailer. Didn't fit at all, but I just hope it was rushed... because the lips didnt even come CLOSE to matching the words... but eh =)

And I hated the opening music to Samurai Champloo, but I didnt mind the hip-hop sound... had a unique feel to it when put to Samurai battles and such =)

How did this stuff get so mixed-up? Its just not my thing at all, but I am sure that its perfect for those who don't mind mixing their ancient asian with modern urban.

I actually liked the music in Samurai Champloo. D:

Very good anime show I must say.

"Sharp like the edge of a Samurai sword, the metal blade cuts through flesh and bone!"
It's AWESOME!!!

Anyway this does look really like Champloo, but far more stylised. I like it, probably gonna see it.

"I'm sick of these Muthaf*cking Ninjas, on my Muthaf*cking turf!"

This trailer doesn't convince me, but if it's anything like Samurai Champloo upon release, I'll give it a shot.

Man, you're out of your mind. That was some of the best shit I've heard in a while and the anime was awesome too.

Definitely a great series.

Yeah the music of SC was awesome as hell, convinced me to get the OST (which is totally worth it btw).

Samurai Champloo had the best music in an anime since...oh I don't know, Cowboy Bebop :| (Yes, I'm aware Watanabe made both series). Have you heard anime music? It's rarely any good. Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are the only animes where I actually don't feel embarassed to listen to the opening and closing credits. Trigun to an extent as well.

But anyway, even though this basically is Samurai Champloo with Samuel L. Jackson, it still looks mad cool.

The Samurai Champloo soundtrack was done by Nujabes, Fat John the Ample Soul Physician and I think another artist. Fat John is awesome and has the whole mellow funk style down and Nujabes are pretty good too. ;)

And Naruto to an extent. Bebop and Champloo didn't last long enough to get into it proper, but with Naruto the openings were good, and only really wore down after the 10th time of watching for me (watching earlier eps now I go through them all). That's about halfway through the entire series of Champloo and Bebop, so yeah.

So um... are Japanese audiences gonna get it subtitled then, or is he the only one speaking english (mother****er)?

Or.......... D:

I think it was originally in Japanese, and he's just doing the voice for the English version.

So, so true. Yoko Kanno seems to do pretty good stuff consistantly. In addition to Cowboy Bebop, the Escaflowne soundtrack wasn't that bad (not brilliant mind you), Turn-A Gundam's was brilliant (if underused and a little mutilated in places) and Stand Alone Complex's is pretty damned good.

edit: also, Macross Plus = yay!
