I know I do!

That was very very cool what they did for us last night - that was the most fun I've had in quite a while and Valve really didn't have to do that for us either.

My impressions of the company went up quite a bit as well as my excitement surrounding the game - because they took their time to do that for us, you just know they are soooooo close to completion that they can blow off some steam (all puns intended).

I've just got a warm and fuzzy feeling inside now (and it's not indegestion this time either). I forgive 'em for what happened last year :)

Yea, that was really cool that they came in that much contact with us and they took the time to do that. It was really nice of em now GIVE US THE ****ING GAME. :D

lol, well I allways liked valve. :)

However yesterday I missed.... since I am in the UK and was at school and didnt know anything of what happend. Which is irritating.

However, I have read most of all the susiquent threads and I found it possitively hillarious. :)

Did anyone find the "second" part?

why should we feel positive?...wheres the sdk?where is the multiplayer?wheres the benchmark?wheres the release date?

For ****s sake, tell me what they ****ing did already!!

I think it is really good for VALVe deciding to do the little fun game and have jokes put in. Very rarely do you see companies nowadays trying to have fun with the fans. Hope at the end of the tests we get a picture of something cool from Half-Life 2. In reality we will probably get a picture of Gabe asleep at his computer when he played WoW too much.

Haha, it did give us something to do! And yes, I think Valve is the shit.

It was fun reading it, although I was sleeping when the 'action' took place.

Never felt bad about Valve though, they screwed up on some points, but who cares? It's pointless to keep ranting about that for months.

But it was a cool thing to do, and it was also good to read from merc that the game was awesome.

I still don't know how did it happened exactly.

Someone just brute forced the /secret FTP?

Although nothing compared to what Cyan does for the Myst series, it was still a bit of fun. I think it's more a prank than PR though. A second part would be fun, but really, they should be concentrating on getting the game finished :p

VALVe rulez.

You remember that guy asking in an email whether HL2.net could get some cool stuff because we are one of a small amount of sites that have actually stuck by valve...

Well maybe this is them saying thanks. :)

Well, thats my little theory anyway. Doesnt mean its true. :rolling:

What happend last night?

Ok I'll summarize what went on.

Merc got to go to VALVe a second time and playtest Half-Life 2. He said it was very near the end of the game and everything about it was just a 10/10, he said he cannot say anything about it.

Merc decided to take one more picture when he was there, it was of a whiteboard that had a bunch of funny stuff on it. On the board it said 'ROT13', ROT13 is a encryption method, there were several messages on the board that were just a bunch of non-sense. Once it was figured out that they were ROT13 encrypted people had figured out what it said, one of em was a link inside the www.half-life2.com/secret/pwn3d/ which lead to a login, once they figured out the username/password you'd get picture of Gman, and it said something like "Hello Halflife2.net. Your cleverness is noted; You've passed the first test.". If you viewed the source of the site you would see a little bird and Gordon Freeman in ASCII Artform.

I just think Greg and Cliffe posting here is a sign the work on HL2 is basically done ;)

What's all this shit about "the secret page?" all I got up was a picture of G-man and a small text saying: "Congratulations, you've found the secret oage" or something like that.

The_Monkey... maybe that IS the secret page! I mean... it does say so! :O

Heheh, its not secret for so many people because they dont understand how people actually found it and the user name and password to it.

This is awesome, the community is fun again! yay fun! yay VALVe!

Personally I never felt any anger towards valve. Sure they've made mistakes (like any of us haven't) and their PR is a bit off, but big deal. It's been disappointing for sure, but I can think of worse things to worry about in my life.

I'd rather have a game that's the best they can make, even if delayed.

They don't have to give us anything, from the game itself, to a single nugget of information, after all. And they surely don't have to let people come visit or answer emails from fans, or set up fun little puzzles like yesterday. But they do and that should say something positive about them...even with the mistakes they've made.

One thing is sure, Valve loves the community--especially the HL2.net forums =p.

n30n never cracked the codes though. He emailed Valve & asked for them.

It doesn't make me like Valve any more as a company, because some things they've done this year are just too annoying to forget. BUT it does make me like them a whole lot more as people. These guys are cool, in a twisted sort of way. Anyone who goes to that much trouble just to have a little fun with their fans is ok in my book.

We still want the damn game though... ;)

I never really had a problem with Valve at all, and this is just funny and it feels kind of cool that they acknowledge this specific portion of their community, which we are a pary of ;)

OMG! valve fanboys! *runs*

J/K

I never disliked valve for the mistakes they have done in the last 6 months, they certainly are the most closest developers to the community - which makes them special.

Like last night proved, Valve are quite close to the community, which I have always liked. Some(most, actually) companies don't bother telling anything about themselves to their fans (the guys that made the GTA series... what was their name again?? ;P jk)

last night valve gave something back to hl2.net... a few tidbits of info have slipped to other hl2 communities where nothing really came especially for hl2.net members... but now we do :E

i have to say tho i nearly caught hepatitis C after last nights shenanegans

i just wonder when teh 2nd "test" is coming :farmer:

last night was ALOT of fun!!
dang...now it sounds dirty..

but all in all i didn't feel too negative towards Valve before all this puzzle stuff and with the puzzles being so involving and fun i do feel more positive about Valve :)

/me feels like someones gonna call him a fanboy   :dork:

We have 614 "tidbits" of valve info in the sticky on top of this forum.

Yeah, I was pretty impressed with Valve last night. They're finally giving HL2.NET some well-deserved attention! I wish some of the guys over there would post here more often, that'd be nice.

The secret website thing sort reminded me of the on-line promotional campaign for the movie A.I. Except not nearly as complex. Did anyone here get into that monster of a puzzle?

I'd have to say that I had a huge amount of fun last night. Valve doing that for us as fans was something I will never forget, Thanks guys ;) (I'll buy a couple of more copies of HL2).

They must be laughing so hard though.

Has anyone pointed out that they probably set up that whiteboard (well, yeah, they did) because of that whiteboard we had a 37 page thread over? Man, they're closer to the community than I thought, even though someone e-mailed them the link. But to remember that..... that's just.... awesome.

Man these people rock.

Try to find a http://www.sierra.com/secret/p3wned !

twas all good fun and now sleep calls, but hopefully there shall be more.

I remember Greg posting that bird in the secret page a few days ago...funny how it cropped up again....
