Age of Conan rating revealed: No nipples in US version

Since we?ve just gotten our ratings, and since it?s the topic of endless speculation, I can now give you the full and complete story on what you will and won?t see in each ?version? of the game.

Please note this isn?t a design decision or something we can reverse. It?s a legal (or as good as legal) requirement to sell the game in that particular territory.

With that said:

The US version is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. If you buy the US version, you will not see nipples.

The German version is rated 18+ by USK. The German version has full gore, but will not have decapitation, dismemberment, and over-the-top type fatalities.

The ?elsewhere in Europe? version is rated 18+ by PEGI and is unchanged

Meh, you don't really play games to see nipples. Don't really see a big problem.
 
the game features decapitations and dismemberment ..nipples are the lesser evil here

oh and the game world, that of Robert E Howard is full of scantily clad females, nipples are the norm
 
Hmm but you can't buy copies from another region can you?

If someone in the US buys EU copy they'll play on EU servers and vice-versa. And I think the actual censorship if meant to be IP-based last I heard so Germans will still get censored even if they buy e.g. French version.
Edit: seems they scrapped that idea actually

Sucks for Americans though. Makes sense, nipples are the devil.

here's how they clarified regions:

The way it stands now, if you buy the version of the game sold in Germany, you will get one that complies with the requirements of the USK and laws of Germany. Of course, if you buy a version of the game from a different region, you'll get that version of the game.

canada gets the US version :( ..same distrubution channels, not region specific
 
why don't they just make an AO version of the game for the US crowd who wants it?
 
because they wouldnt be able to sell it in tradional distribution outlets ..no walmart/gamestop etc ..also too much work for too little return ..I guess why put in added resources for people who will buy the game anyways regardless if it's the censored version or not ..no nipples wont stop me from purchasing it ..even thoughI'm sure in the back of my mind I'll be thinking

I'm glad they made this choice. I can't tell you how much it used to traumatise me, back in my axe-murdering days, when I would cut off a lady's head only for her to fall over and her horrid nipple-boobs to pop out of her dress. FILTHY DIRTY NIPPLES

Wait...doesn't the console Conan game feature nipples? Doesn't God of War feature nipples?? What the heck is wrong with this game then??

(Not to even get started on what is wrong about featuring graphic violent deaths and not normal human anatomy that virtually every female on the planet has???)
 
Think it may be something to do with it being a MMO as well. Player interaction + nipples rather than just nipples.

yes but the esrb recently changed the way they quantify ratings

American censors don't make sense to me. There could be a commercial where there's just a line of people who get blasted by machine guns but then if they show a womens nipple or ass it's censored. A lot of times they can show mens asses but not womens so basically there only allowed to show nudity if it can't be viewed while sitting naked covered in lotion. I think blood and gore would be far worse on a child then seeing another human being nude.

no, I'm saying they should have 2 versions for the US. One is the pussy version for walmart etc... the other is the EXTREME version that could be sold online or whatever.

it's even more convoluted than that ..you can show an ass in profile but cant show an ass crack ..at least not on broadcast tv

But no ratings system for books though. 15 year olds can go buy American Psycho, the most stomach-turningly violent book to my knowledge, but get carded when trying to buy Playboy. Awesome system.:angry:
 
Playboy will obviously make a bigger impression on a young child than Hannibal or American Psycho. I mean... they've clearly never seen nipples before, evar.

I'll check out the trial version if there's one first... I have never done an MMO (besides Guild Wars) because of monthly fees, and it needs to be _damn_ good to convince me otherwise.
 
I think it says a lot about videogames and their audience when theres news articles written over whether "nipples" will be in or not.

They should just put it as a bullet point on the back of the box. Right under "Dynamic Lighting" or "Free-Roaming" they need a slot for "Nipples".

Classy.
 
Nipple Slider in the video settings. Along with Butt Bulge, Cleavage depth and Boob bounce (possible hit on fps). I win.
