AoE has been announced for the DS. I'm not sure what version it is - and it's being ported by a company called Majesco.

I really hope that this is good conversion :) Just imagine what the extra screen and stylus could offer to the series. Add wireless connectivity and we're laughing.

A strategy game on a handheld? :O

*watches universe implode*

Seriously though, could be damned cool playing AoE on the DS. :D

:)

With a control method which is potentially superior. Who'd have thunk it?

I'm a massive AoE fan, and simply can't wait \o/

wow thats looks like a very good idea

and whit the touchable screen will be very easy to control

This might just push blizzard into putting Sc on the DS

We can only hope :)

The stylus opens up so many possibilities. Why not Fallout on the DS? Or Baldur's Gate?

Why not Syndicate?!

Now there's a good reason to buy one :D

wow, I remember that game, although vaugly. Do you know were to get it anymore? I want to play it!

AoE on the DS, nice... Afew more good ones like that and I might just buy a DS.

IF BG and Fallout came out on the DS, i'd buy one, that that'd be the only reason...

Me too. And Warbie, explain to me how buttons can replace a mouse/keyboard in a strategy game.

Touch screen, you use the little stick thingy.

Yup.

Circle the unit/s you want to move with your stylus, and tap on the screen where you want them to go :) (that alone would make for a very enjoyable and unique experience) All with a handy map on the other screen to keep you informed of the bigger picture.

Touch screens suck for gaming. Use the little pad on laptops, it's the same thing. Just not located on the screen.

What have laptops got to do with this? :/

It's far from being the same (which anyone who's used a DS will know)

You couldn't be more wrong. What you should have said is - 'up till now touch screen has been crap for gaming'. Which is true, it's awful on laptops. Fortunately we're not talking about laptops

Yep, DS is different than a little laptop screen.

I can't wait for AOE, I hope they do it right...

Finally, a game which takes use of the touch screen..hope this turns out well. I would consider getting it especially if this game is good.

And, if we're lucky, it'll spawn a whole plethora of remakes... like Starcraft... but not a shitty remake like SC64...

Or if we're even luckier - and brand new RTS series designed soley for DS hardware.

There's so many neat things that can be done with a DS (ones that wouldn't be possible on any other hardware)

I know it's rather gimmicky - but I would like use the microphone and shout charge, just to see the little men rush to their doom. Or even use the stylus in a similar fashion to how black and white uses hand gestures for magic (accept this wouldn't be as clumsy)

e.g. once you've selected a unit you command them to move somewhere by drawing a symbol on the ground. A simple tap could be the default 'move and attack anything that's near' etc. Or, a quick cross (X) could tell them to move somewhere and take a defensive stance. Maybe a circle could tell them to gather any resources it encompasses. The details don't matter much - I just think it'd be intuitive, enjoyable and a very quick way of commanding troops.

Erm, do try not to get too worked up people :)
As I said, it's not actually confirmed properly yet. But "WOO!" if it is ....

This is a damned good idea though...

Makes you wonder how long it'll be until a handheld version of Half-Life original... I'd buy a DS just for that...

Oh, and an excellent use for the DS hardware - complex shooters like System Shock 1. They should remake that for the DS. Put the 1st Person display uptop and the inventory below or something.
