My computer recently downloaded a virus that is bugging the hell out of me. I know where the files are, but anytime I try to delete them they just keep reappearing. Anyone have any idea of how I can find the file that keeps bringing these files back? I tried a virus scan and that didn't pick it up. I wonder if there is a log file that I can look at to see where the files came from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
;)

I already have adaware. My virus scanning software says it is a trojan horse virus, but it just keeps coming back after I delete it.

Try deleting it through DOS, or in safe mode. Make sure your firewall is stopping it from accessing the net, that should cut down the possible damage it could do.

Check online for ways of removing it, heck check add/remove, some actually provide an uninstaller heh.

Check its not running in the registry, preventing it from being removed.

Assume there's a couple of other files linked to it and well hidden that are causing the problems.

Check the task manager and running processes to see if you can spot anything that shouldn't be running.

Get updated versions of Ad-aware, spyboy, that MS one, check it with a couple of different virus scanners, including an online one (panda activescan is pretty good)

Make sure your firewall is uptodate and blocking anything you don't know about.

Dump IE and only use Firefox

Up your internet settings all the same, incase something tries to run IE, it'll limit what can be done.. Block all cookies and tighten security settings for everything apart from sites you trust.

Never accept licences for WMP9

Avoid downloading anything iffy.

Don't click tinyurl links unless you know the person who gave you it. And check with them first that they did actually send you the link and know its safe.

Don't click links on IRC

Don't trust anyone.

Should be generally ok then

excellent advice

hehehe funny how microsoft made an adware remover which they are probably going to start charging for on a monthly basis ie. subscriptions. even though the flaws in there operating system are to blame for the creation of adware/spyware in the first place.

Start>Run> msconfig
then go to start up then untick all of them
reboot scan
remove
reboot
tick back all the ones u want back in msconfig.

yep definitely get firefox, there is a link for it in my sig! its the best, once you try it you won't go back!

IE isn't that bad, it's just targetted by 100% of exploits. If firefox got the same attention you'd all be dumping it for IE.
