Keep in mind when you read this: "We were so struck by the findings that we rushed to get the study published."

Aging Reversed in Mice

They found restoring the enzyme not only stopped aging but revived failing organs and even restored dark fur to mice who had turned grey. DePinho said the mice that were equivalent to ages 80 to 90 in human years returned to the equivalent of middle age.

This is how the zombies in I Am Legend were made. We're doooooooomed!

Yay, overpopulation. How about we first work to change our biological imperative and then focus on creating Soylent Green?

and then an even greater over-population problem, resource scarcity - if not a complete drain! - and then extinction!

****. YEAH.

If used to make the ending years better, okay. If used to extend lifespan, no.

Take that, ALF (The Animal Liberation Front vs. research)

WERE HELPING. MAKING MICE HEALTHY

All this would mean is we get double lifespan. We live 'till we're old, and then when we're about to die we get this treatment and get younger and younger until we suffer a fate worse than death.

PRE-LIFE!.... then death.

Strike 1: Posted on an MSM site. (Exhibit A)
Strike 2: They rushed it, excitement notwithstanding, rushing to publish is not good.
Strike 3: Peer-review, as yet there is none.

Do you really think anyone but the wealthiest of people could afford this anyhow? Price was not disclosed, but will bet money that the price is astronomical. Does it prevent people from dying due to heart disease, or any number of self-induced (or age-unrelated) diseases?

I doubt this will change statistics in meaningful way, if it's anything more than an overblown science media circus. I remain skeptical until it enters human trials.

Did I ever tell you I love you Krynn?

If used to make the ending years better, okay. If used to extend lifespan, no.

So I take it you wouldn't use medication, or anything else that increases lifespan? You do realize that average life expectancy used to be around 30 years, right?

I believe this tech was around for years but was merely theoretical. also doesn't this kinda science create cancer? well i guess if you have cancer you'd want this

Would love to stay youthful, yet still retain a finite life span.

I need to see proper peer review and replication by other scientists before I start to believe these findings. Interesting, nonetheless. Will probably only be available to the rich if possible.

May I ask why?

I agree, I too need to see peer reviews confirming this, before I get excited. As for your second point... All new technologies are expensive, however they are eventually perfected and the prices go down. To say that this will only be available to the rich, indefinitely, is just wrong.

I should have clarified: I meant at first. Certainly the price will go down eventually if it takes off.. there is no doubt about that.

idk about you bro, but I love my friends and family (and the finite nature of life itself) too much to watch them die, make more friends, watch them die, then twiddle my thumbs for eternity pondering on how futile human emotion is for the immortal.

imo I could only see longer work hours, less holiday time and nothing but more "omg daily grind" stuff filling more of your schedule if you were more or less immortal.

"it's not like you'll drop dead lol"

**** you guys, I look forward to resting in peace. However, I'm not sure I want to die of some painful disease while looking 90 years old either.

I'm a little irritated at this article. The title is misleading. "AGING REVERSED!!!! OMG READ THIS AND YOUR FEEBLE LIFE WILL HAVE MEANING!" then I get to the end: "But it's far from being used on humans. You'll probably never see anything like this anywhere near your lifetime. BUT HEY, YOU WERE EXCITED FOR A MINUTE AND A HALF! LOLZ"

Perhaps I need to stop watching and playing sci-fi media... These kinds of articles where they claim to have perfected something only seen in movies or fairytales always end with the "But not in your lifetime." bit. But I aint bitter.

I wasn't excited that i might live forever, but I was excited that we might have the knowledge and technology to do something like this, cause think of all the other stuff we could accomplish if this became something commonplace... Speaking of which, couldn't this kind of knowledge cure degenerative diseases? We could keep the most intelligent people on the planet alive to make more discoveries like this. Maybe with this same idea we could give Stephen Hawking use of his muscles again... And he could stay alive to finish his work, if he desired. But, not in my lifetime, so screw it. Back to playing vidya games and procrastinating on homework.

I don't know about you bro, but I would prefer to have the choice when and if I want to die, rather than have it dictated to me by old age. And yes I have tought about the "forever alone" problem and TBH I still want to live indefinitely.

**** you guys, I look forward to resting in peace.

Fatalism, how amusing...

"But not in your lifetime."

Nowhere in that article does it say such a thing. It's your own conclusion.

What else do you want to control? Be as specific as possible.

I think you don't understand what fatalism is.

*looks it up*

I stand corrected.

Then I don't know what the right term would be, deathism? LOL.

EDIT:

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking what else I would like to control, besides my own life?

Normal?

He was obviously exaggerating for humor, but accepting that you're going to die is kind of normal.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking what else I would like to control, besides my own life?

Yeah! If it were up to you, would you want to control the universe in it's entirety?

He was obviously exaggerating for humor.

I hope so. There's a big difference between accepting death, and looking forward to it.

Yeah! If it were up to you, would you want to control the universe in it's entirety?

Why control this universe when you can make your own, and be an asshole god in it?

How large would your universe be? Would there be other beings in it? Be as specific as possible.

Cool. Humanity's expansion must never stop, even if it entails overpopulation. Actually, I would imagine that overpopulation would be the pushing force behind many technological advances in the future.

I have some alternate sources, if interested:

Life is hard. I'm just looking forward to the rest. I will still fight to the death to live, because it's in my nature. I'm not done yet, I'm just saying, I don't want to be immortal.

How large would your universe be? Would there be other beings in it? Be as specific as possible.

Why do you want people to be so specific? Do you have an ulterior motive that requires you knowing intimate details, or is it something else? Be as specific as possible.

To be specific (as possible), I am asking Remus (A hl2.net poster) about the specifics of his fictional universe (Because he expressed how he would rather control his own universe than the absolute one we're supposedly in now) because I was suffering from an itchy case of curiosity - he wanted control over the extents and expanse of his life, so I was asking him how far the extent for his desire to control goes.

Why did you feel the need to ask me in the first place? Are you feeling insecure about something? Be as specific as possible.

He's probably considering whether he should add me to the list of people that are after world domination.

I was actually half-considering offering Gnosticism as a suggestion for your goals, though the actual concept of "You are a God full ****ing stop" seems more Satanism, idk.

No of course not. Medication is for pussies.

Please give me the benefit of the doubt that I'm not ****ing retarded. If people were living into their 130s, there's a serious problem. It's already a problem with population. Having people live longer isn't a positive thing. Having people live better for those years is fine, but lengthening lives isn't smart beyond what they are now (I would argue that people living into their late 80s being too long already).
