Good day,

recently bought a Radeon 9600pro (gigabyte) with a K8N Neo (platinum edition?) Mobo(MSI, Naturally).

I put all this together to form a completely normal PC (no sticking kebabs in the RAM sockets) with Windows XP pro and now the SMARTGART wont allow me to turn on AGP(never mind 8x).

It recognises the card in the slot, Quake 3 plays fine, UT2004 demo (onslaught) full settings plays fine, DOOM3 fine also (didnt play much) but FC demo1 crashes before I reach the Island, Max Payne refuses to play (likely due to service packs in hindsight).

Latest drivers 4 video card installed ( "wxp[...]8-042...)

Thanks in advance, sorry if the phrasing is at first confusing.

is the bios configured properly?

Look around for agp settings.

sorry, i may have misphrased that. The bios settings are fine, the problems not solved

Try getting driver cleaner and completely reinstalling your drivers.

Also, make sure the card is properly seated in the slot.

I used CAT uninstaller (I tried to D/L dc but it didnt work) and the card is as properly seated as i can get it without a hammer. No help. Thanks(seriously, your the only person who bothered to care, and you even returned to try help again).

Hmmmmm, sorry it didn't work.

The card might be screwed up. Try calling the support people from where ever you got it.

Thanks again. I think now that it must have been the motherboard as the card worked fine on another PC. I'll contact the people who sold me this peice of crap mobo and <censored>,

BTW the mobo is really good for the money if you out there want to buy one, I must just have gotten a dud.

Hazar, thanks for your time.
World, why do you hate me?
Everyone else, if you have any suggestions...

Heres your solution, I'm surprised nobody mentioned this.

Everybody with little hardware knowledge should know:

Install your mobo drivers! Without those, you wont be able to use agp and stuff.

For intel: Intel chipset update utility.
For amd: 4in1 hyperion drivers.

same problem happened to me, i just changed my motherboard to 8x agp in bios then it worked fine, and for some reason when i dloaded sp 2 it changed it back to 0, so i dont use sp 2

Have you installed the mobo drivers now ? We need a status report if you want us to help you.

Well, im going to later (still need internet) and after that nothing from me till next weeikend so worry not for now, thanks.

Thanks alot, all.

Well, it seems your problem is in not having your mobo drivers. Here's a tip for the future:

1. Hook up PC.
2. Load up, get to desktop.
3. If PC came with (bought from company) any CDs with drivers on them, pop the mobo CD in first, install any and all drivers you can.
4. Next, install your video card drivers,
5. Install any other drivers at will.

Usually mobo and GPU drivers are the most important for your system.
