ATI 7000 32 meg video card
ASUS A7VX-X M-Board

And It looked like this:

Then after an hour more, the motherboard video just died.

I took it in, the tech said the mobo is ok, however the AGP slot is broken.

I know its a 32 meg card, and its now loaded in my expensive Video editing machine.

Will it also kill my new machine?

Or was it just my old

ASUS A7VX-X boards time to die?

Can marathon playing of HL2 with a crappy video card kill your motherboard?

I have the ATI 9700 pro comming any day from Newegg.
Can the old 32 meg have a voltage spike from choking on HL2?
:bonce:

No, i'd say faulty video card or faulty motherboard, most likely faulty motherboard. AGP slots don't break because you play a game too long.

I suspect playing HL2 has pushed your 32 meg video card so hard that the chips have got very hot on it causing your problems. A 32 meg card is not designed to play games like HL2, marathon playing of HL2 with this card should not kill your motherboard but the heat generated at the AGP slot would do it no favours.

As regard a voltage spike hitting your video card that would depend on what type of PSU you have, if it is a cheap one then a power surge is possible. My choice would be to avoid using the video card again.

I would say faulty hardware. It shouldn't get SO HOT that it melts your board/slots.
