In any game that has the player using guns, they invariably have to use a method for gun recoil. There are three different types of gun recoil.

Firing Cone-circle which expands when you fire the gun, bullets have a random chance of hitting within the firing cone.

Cursor Travel-cursor bounces around(often upward), by skillfully moving the mouse you can negate much of this recoil. However this recoil is the easiest to hack.

Screen Travel-the cursor stays fixed to the screen, but the whole screen moves around from the gun recoil. This like cursor travel can be compensated by moving the mouse, but is much more difficult

The smoothest system is by far the cone. Or actually an invisible cone. Think Max Payne, just a dot on the screen.

But of course most seem want the Hollywood feel with 9mm pistols sounding like howitzers and have a recoil eqvivalent of dropping a car on you (preferably in slow mo), so the smoothest aint always what people want, then the shaky screen WITH moving crosshair AND firing cone is the best :)

Though I would like a zero aim. No crosshair, nothing on screen. Every weapon have to have deviance though, and pretty large such (should be deviance dynamicly calculated with range of crosshair target). This way you cant really cheat, as you never know how much deviance you have or where exactly it will hit.

The most realistic one by far is the moving crosshair type.

One of the reasons i hate cs so much is because you can keep the crosshair on a target but the cone is so big u won't get a hit. Cones are just very annoying... the less they're used the happier i am

I think the best recoil is cone recoil used in moderation and in combonation with the moving crosshair. DoD did it perfect.

My MOD is using a slightly more innovative and realistic recoil, but you'll just have to wait and see :)

It physicly makes the monitor move?! :)

Curious what it is though, as I fail to see any other ways of doing recoil than already done by the games.

well

I find the specialist 2.0 use of the moving screen recoil to be the hardest to hack, and its quite challenging to handle the guns.

I'd say a combination of those is the best way to go:
A crosshair movement system means that skilled players are able to overcome some of the disadvantages, which is good, but a firing cone means that no one can completely overcome it, which is also good.
True, but remember that in modern games, you are part of a small army, not a few men. The guns themselves loose importance to position and tactics. Does it really matter if skilled players can overcome some of it when there is another peep coming out of the shadows to slit your throat? ;)

That is why I suggested no crosshair and large firing cones... Want closer combat and tactical deployment, not skilled shooters or anything remotly helping them aim. But thats just my dream... Unaimed was supposed to be like that. Hopefully another mod will make it happen :)

Anyone remember Tresspasser? ok, maybe a bit too hard to code.
