ALBERT EINSTEIN'S RIDDLE

ARE YOU IN THE TOP 2% OF INTELLIGENT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD?
SOLVE THE RIDDLE AND FIND OUT.

There are no tricks, just pure logic, so good luck and don't give up.

1. In a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.
2. In each house lives a person of different nationality
3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke
different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.

THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?

HINTS

1. The Brit lives in a red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The Green house is on the left of the White house.
5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The man living in the centre house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water.

ALBERT EINSTEIN WROTE THIS RIDDLE EARLY DURING THE 19th CENTURY. HE
SAID THAT 98% OF THE WORLD POPULATION WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SOLVE IT.

The German who lives in the green house and smokes Prince and drinks coffee has the fish.

Duh

Einstein is racist.

:p

*runs like hell*

my brain hurts, i drank too much coffee, i keep getting hot flushes and im scared to go to bed

I could probably do this with a piece of paper.

Heh, am I the only one actually trying to do this properly? oO

I've filled up like 4 sheets of A4 paper thinking this through so far :E

(ps well done pesmerga, you can use google!)

It's quite easy, just think it through before you do it. You have to put the ones you know in order, then have the remaining ones as modular things you can move around to see where they fit.

... did that make any sense at all?

Yes. That's how I did it.

The way I'd put it is this:

Put down what you know then guess & check :P

It's a bit more structured than that, but you've got to think dynamically, it's not a logic puzzle in the straightforward sense.

/How I've been doing it :p

Now, before I show this I should mention that I didn't notice that the order of the houses mattered until I had the whole top half created... or house order would have been in the main part, instead of its own column (making it harder to see relationships). Here's a picture of what my final result looked like in notepad, using a method I was taught in the 3rd grade: Click here.

I had the answer when it was about 1/3 or 1/2 full but I felt like filling the rest of it because I was bored.

Am I the only person that uses that method?

You put too much time into that.

I drew houses :E

I did the whole bloody thing in Word (using square brackets as oppose to houses), took me ages :( I did get the German in the end though.

[Yellow Norwegian Water Dunhill Cats]
[Blue Dane Tea Blends Horses]
[Red Brit Milk PallMall Birds]
[Green German Coffee Prince Fish]
[White Swede Beer BlueMaster Dogs]

well, that only took an hour and a half ^_^

Figured out it was the german dude though before reading any responses

SPOLER!

Yeah, he should have used spoiler tags.

Done it before, just set all the obvious information in a table then link it together. All the information you need is there.

Ooh, I do like these kind of things. Might help though if I wasn't a bit drunk. Hell, I'll try in the morning.

This is by far the most intelligent thread of the Month!! :)

My dad walked in just as I started working on this riddle. Took us about 45 minutes to figure out. Great fun. We used a table in word and filled in the missing information as we went. The toughest part was figuring out who smoked the Blends. Once that was figured out, the rest of the pieces fell into place easily.

I'm not intelligent, so I won't try :( I want to though!. I don't see a point in trying/failing/crying....

If you don't think you can do it, you can't. Don't try.

My moto > *

Wrote this down and did it before I went to bed last night - took around 15 minutes ;)
