1906 - 2008​

"While researching lysergic acid derivatives, Hofmann first synthesized LSD-25 in 1938. It was set aside for five years, until April 16, 1943, when Hofmann decided to take another look at it. While re-synthesizing the LSD, he accidentally ingested a small sample (through his fingertips) and serendipitously discovered its powerful effects. Three days later, on April 19, Hofmann deliberately consumed 250 micrograms of LSD before his bicycle ride home."

Would've put this up yesterday if I'd had any solid backup. Anyway, LSD is an amazing drug, and he was an amazing man.

Perhaps I'll be able to get my hands on some at the radiohead show I'm going to next week
 
Haven't tried LSD. I have tried magic mushrooms, though, which supposedly gives a similar effect. It was awesome and freaky at the same time, I could see my own organs.
 
Ah, what an epic and fantastic man.

RIP. I remember when I tried LSD when I was 15. I haven't actually taken anything like that since then, but it was still epic.

BTW, its best to try it with someone with experiance. Freaky shit can happen.

He was involved with Wasson in bringing mushrooms to the Western world a decade or two after he synthesized LSD, and he was also the first person to synthesize psilocybin, so you could still be a fan :p
 
I'm not a big fan of his eyebrow dandruff in that painting.
 
Hate to be a bore, but in my experience, LSD is powerful as shit, not fun, and dangerous (driving, dying 60 times on the first level of a video game, jumping out of windows, child neglect, horrible body aches lasting about 24 hours, running the streets in underwear, getting pulled over with drugs, etc.) - all things that happened to me my first (and last) time doing a couple of hits of the 'Jesus Christ' variety.)

If you decide you want to try it for the first time just try 1 hit and wait a while. It took about an hour before it started kicking in. Make sure you have no access to car keys, high windows, or busy streets.


RIP old man. born in 1906. Holy shit, that is an accomplishment in itself.

Yeah. I had hardly heard of it. My friend took some and kept going on and on and on about seeing amazing colors on the plain ****ing wall. I looked at my weed, and became annoyed and bored. So I tried it. I had no idea what to expect. I thought it would be like weed, except more fun.

It's a completely different kind of drug. It really alters your brain. Also, something extremely annoying, I kept forgetting everything.

the next 18 hours of the drug I mostly spent curled in a ball in my bed with horrible aches and pains, particularly in my back

I'm not sure there is a responsible way of using powerful illegal hallucinogens.


Anyway, I have to go to bed.

I've heard it causes cramps in some people, haven't experienced that myself. Just being awake for 24hrs when all I want to do is sleep and for the ceiling to stop swirling

Yes there most certainly is. Have a trip sitter or experienced individual with you if you are not experienced (or even if you are), gauge your dose carefully and conservatively, and know EVERYTHING about the hallucinogen before you take it the first time - effects, method of action, psychopharmacology, health issues, what to expect etc.

A lot of it has to do with why you are taking the drug and what your intentions are for the trip as well.

I don't care that you were irresponsible, that's your own problem, but tripping once after being massively unprepared and getting your ass kicked by the drug does not qualify you to pass knowledgeable judgment on the substance to someone who's never done it.

Out of all the things you said though you were right about one thing for sure... LSD is extremely powerful.
