Alien vs. Predator 2

I know this isn't really Halflife 2 related but...I recently bought the 'old' game Alien vs. Predator 2 and the addon for the insanely low price of €7,50. The game is great I really really love it, and when I found out that it's build on a tweaked Halflife 1 engine and that Halflife 2 can port Halflife1 stuff, I started thinking that it should be posible to upgrade Alien vs Predator 2 to Source. Is there a group of Modders already thinking/working on something like that? If not I think it would be a great project.

I thought AvP2 used the lithtech engine? Same one as NOLF1&2

the AvP mod idea has come up before, but ever since the Aliens TC for Doom & Quake, and what happened with Fox, people have been reluctant to try again

Hmmm...a couple of people whom I was playing online with mentioned it was the Halflife engine. Have to look into this.

yep I just got done with "Clive Barker's Undying" (built on unreal tech) .. great game

then I moved onto AvP2, Im also enjoying it my ... like 5th time through lol.
its built on the lithtech engine (Monolith's in house engine, which was used on games like, Blood2:the chosen, Shogi etc.)
I dont think it used any part of the HL (originaly ID's Quake 1 engine... and a splash of Quake 2 netcode)

what happened? sue-age?

yeah I would love to see a new AvP game, since AvP2 is def one of the best ever sp games.

Have fun playing it again. I'll start killing everything in the add-on after I've finished Max Payne 2 (love that game). Anyone interested in working on an Alien vs. Predator mod with me (since there is no way I can achieve something like that on my own).

Basically Fox went nuts about it. Much later on AvP turned up, I don't know what engine that used, I remember it was and I think still is one hell of a bitch to mod for, maybe it was the first version of lithtech? I know in the early days that engine had tons of problems, Most got fixed with NOFL then wasn't AvP2 running on that one, or the lithtech2 engine? I dunno now, i get confuzzled easily with all these engines :)

the one in NOLF2 though is very nice, get some pretty big exterior maps going with that one and some great effects in it. But I hear its still not the most user friendly thing to mod for, there are tools available but I think most shy away from it, prefering the simpler HL1 modding. Shame too cause its a mighty fine engine that deserves a better chance.. maybe the next version that will likely try match against Source will be more usable. Though by the looks of it the third NOLF game is using the one from before, certainly nothing super fancy in it alas

I'll PM the url to some old stuff, recent concept art isn't available though, cause its for the ********** remake so I can't show nowt from that *pouts* atleast until the show airs in full, otherwise it might give away spoilers, depending on whats used and what isn't.

ooh rgr, thanks for that

If it's not Half-Life 2 related, it doesn't go into the Half-Life 2 Discussion forum. Right?

It used the lithtech engine.

Red Faction is a very fun engine to mod with. also the geo mods stuff is cool. I've play RF2 but I havnt modded with it yet.

Which game was it that used Lithtech Triton?

I think it might have been Tron 2.0 - that was certainly a pretty thing, just goes to show how underrated LithTech is...

Hmmm see if I can remember some of the games that used the Lithtech Engine.

(No particular order)

Blood 2: The Chosen (Used Lithtech 1.0 I think)
No one Lives Forver
No one Lives Forever 2 a Spy in H.A.R.M.S Way
Die Hard: Nakatomi Plazza
Aliens vs predator 2
Tron 2.0
Global Ops

What else is out there that uses 1.0 and 2.0 lithtech? Brains gone dead can't think of anymore.

whats it like to mod with? I've played the demo of the game, messed around in that square room where you can make tunnels and stuff. Haven't done any editing for it, but imagined it was sorta similar to the way editing on Unreal worked, where it was like an inverted version of the quake engine, where you'd have a large solid and cut your world out of it, I dunno if later Unreal games worked the same, only ever done any modding for the original Unreal. So err yeah back to the point, so is that similar, considering the way you can just blow holes into just about anything (though I noticed in the demo, a good deal of it doesn't seem to be destructable)

It is a good game but the Alien/Predator missions are not as fun as the Marine ones.

Wish it was longer too. Need to fire that up again have not played it in a long long time.

AVP2 did indeed use the Lithtech engine, and not a Half-Life or Half-Life based engine.

"Harrison, run a bypass."
"Yeah Harrison, run a bypass...oh, you mean ME!"

Pling-pling pling-pling pling-pling Oh my god....AH ITS AN ALIEN! Oh, no its just a crane swinging in the breeze. AH! AN ALIEN! Oh, sorry my mistake, just some interestingly-shaped pipes and stuff. Oh, look, its a man with a canoe on his head.....AH NO ITS AN ALIEN!
And so on.
This should be turned into a 'praise the old lithtech games' thread. No-One Lives Forever Forever!

Lmao @ Sulkdodds. :p

Aliens do look like they have canoes for heads now that you said that, haha.
