So I'm in our local DVD store looking for a DVD to expand my collection and I see the Special Collectors Edition of Alien. I remember I liked the movie when I saw it some 20 years ago so I got it. I go home, watch it, and I was scarred sh*tless. Just the claustrophobia and suspense is enough to scare you to death. Anyway, do we have any Alien fans here?

I am a diehard Alien fan.

But I liked Aliens more.

Alien 3 sucked. A lot.

Alien: Ressurection made me lol.

...but for some reason, I want to buy the quadrilogy.

I bought the Alien Legacy boxset, only for the Quadrilogy to be released a year later. What a piss-take. :(

The first two were awesome movies. They should have stopped there but potential money clouded their vision.

Alien is an excellent horror movie and Aliens is an excellent action movie!

Just like everyone, I liked Alien and Aliens. Alien is the perfect Sci-Fi Horror movie, Aliens a remarkable Sci-Fi War Movie. Aliens just edges it for me as to which is the better... I liked all the new characters they introduced (Newt is so cute ^^), and Sigourney got to be a pretty kick-ass action heroine. Alien 3 wasn't that bad... just long, drawn out and boring. Plus they killed off everyone who mattered to the series. Actually, considering that everyone dies, that's probably the understatement of the century.

Watch Alien, watch Aliens, then stop. Don't watch Alien 3/4/AvP, all complete dog shite

I love Aliens, one of my favourite movies everrrrrr

All 3 were good and avp. Part 4 was horrible.

Alien will always be the apex of the series. There was something about that creature and that situation that defined some primal horror within our minds. I still frequently have dreams about Giger's alien, perhaps the only recurring dreams I have had my entire life.

The second film is great for what it is, but I will forever hold a grudge against Cameron for what he tried to turn the alien into - a giant insect. The original incarnation, particularly when including the deleted 'cocooned crew-members' sequence, is far more disturbing.

In the first film, the alien is just that - alien. You have no idea how it thinks or feels (or if it even does), how it reproduces, where it came from, and so on. It's one of the strongest points of the movie. Then Cameron up and decides it's just a big ant.

How many of you have heard of that supposed alternate ending to Alien, where the creature actually kills Ripley at the end of the film, sits down in a chair and sends a message, in Ripley's voice, to earth, saying that it is en route? Apparently it's what Scott wanted for the film, but the studio pushed for a happy ending. I think I would have preferred that ending. Would have spared us Resurrection, anyway.

Alien 3 could have been so much better had the studio not taken it of david Finchers hands and proceeded to butcher it. The work print in the quadrilogy box set shows what promise Alien 3 showed had he been left alone to complete it even though its poorly edited and added to by the studio!

Alien was more original and built up better suspense in my mind.

So Alien > Aliens :p

i love alien. i love it so much i have the amazing 9 disc box set, i got it for only £40!!! bargain!!

my favorite is aliens, i love the squad based mayhem, plus theres big guns and stuff. aliens > alien > alien res > alien 3.

i really hated 3, it killed off all the characters at the beginning and turned good potential into a boring film that didnt scare me at all...

Maybe early in his career when he made Terminator and Aliens, certainly not now. he seems to have lost all directing talent in the last few years for some reason.

Yes, considering his last film was Titanic, 7 years ago. :p Unless you're talking about all that documentary stuff he did.

Well both Titanic and the fact that he's only doing documentries and episodes for "Dark Angel". He used to be a A-Class action director, but Titanic was abysmal and now he's just doing documentries about the Titanic and other nautical things.
