As brought to my attention by Mr-Fusion; (quote for great justice)
Alien vs predator has now been banned.

The new Aliens Vs. Predator game has been banned from Aussie shelves.

The Game's Developer said:
"We will not be releasing a sanitised or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices"

One begins to wonder how many times this has to happen before there's enough of a public outcry against it. The whole 'we prevent the sale of these games to protect our children' defense is wearing a bit thin. It boggles the mind to approach anything with that mentality, I mean, where does the litigation end? Do we stop selling liquor and pornography because children MAY somehow get access to them?

Some responsibility must fall to parents to prevent their children from accessing this material. It is rated 18+ for a reason.

I do understand that the Government sees that parents will still provide these games to their children and that this is the only way that they feel they can make an impact. But when you realise that (for Australia at least, in 2007; http://blogs.theage.com.au/screenplay/archives/004944.html) the average gamer age is 28 years old, there's a much larger demographic being restricted.

GG. Loved the Alien series and this is a right kick in the pants.

Australia has no 18+ ratings gaems.

It's going to be shit anyway. Aussies don't have anything to worry about.

Yeah I know this, which is why I'm getting L4D2 shipped in from the UK (still waiting btw). Doesn't help that extreme measures such as that need to be conducted because the country I live in is backwards about that sort of stuff.

If this shit happened in the US or Europe there would be ****ing riots, not cuz of the game, but because no one would put up with such a shit government for one second. But then again, our governments ban more important stuff than games (weed, whores etc, things we all love and want)

Now that is a very unfortunate business strategy, don't you think? Losing a whole marketload of people to sell to because of some abstract belief.

It's idealism, not a business strategy.

They are doing the right thing, they dont want to become enablers.

Enablers of what?

The only thing they're doing is making Austrailian people miss out on a game. You don't fight government policy in that way - this is the same reason that terrorism is largely ineffective.

That is the biggest pussy, rah rah guvament argument ive seen yet. What is your point? Terrorism is not activism and especially not boycotting no matter how much glorious leader says it is.

This medium is shit on enough by censors, and Australia is a miniscule market. The US is not and this type of standing up and more over here will do wonders. This is a good step

What are we supposed to use? Harsh language?

Ok, I get it, Austrailia is a negligible enough market to ignore.

Good on the devs for not bending over for Michael ****ing Atkinson's irrational logic.

Those who want the game can just import it. BFD.

I agree that the sales from down under won't be that much - I'm still annoyed that only one Attorney General is holding the whole country back.

I really wouldnt be too heart-sore about it, you can guarantee the game is going to..

I thorougly enjoyed AVP2, but it's not really the point is it. Just sucks that one man can effectively cockblock the gaming community. Not specifically looking at this but its ridiculous the hoops that us Australians would have to jump through to purchase what the rest of the world gets as a given.

Not releasing the game has a bigger political impact that releasing a censored version. If they call enough of splash it will help the progress of getting a 18+ rating in Australia. If that happens they won't have to make censored versions any more and it would also be an idealogical victory.

It's a shame, especially if the average gamer age is 28. I guess if that's the case be glad they still sell cars, after all a teenager may get their hands on one and kill someone someday. Don't you just love government "watching out" for you. I had no idea it was like that in Australia.

Didn't really want to download the whole thing, plus it was $50 from CD WOW so can't really complain about that.

Well I can, but I won't be when it shows up.

IF it shows up.

:(

Isn't this coming out in less than a month? There is hardly anything about it.

I can't say anything about the game yet, neither positive nor negative. There simply isn't enough gameplay footage (Aside from some very standard/okay Predator footage)

I can probably assume this will be greatly geared towards casuals and consoles. Though I can only hope each of the campaigns don't clock in at 3 hours each.

It's going to be garbage. These are the same people who developed ****ing Shellshock 2 and Rogue Warrior. It doesn't help that they haven't produced anything worth playing in 10 years besides Rogue Trooper and Sniper Elite.

It -is- in stock, still is apparently, but i ordered it on the 20th of November and it's still not here. T_T

What's worse is I can't get up them to try and track it until its been 3 weeks.

Wtf?? There are 2 Aliens games?
Well, there was an rpg being developed by Obsidian, but Sega canceled it. Gearbox was working on an awesome looking Alien fps with 4 player coop, but it got put on hold until Rebellion is finished with AVP. Colonial Marines WAS supposed to release this year, but nooooo they got Rebellion to develop what will undoubtedly be another piece of trash.
