So I'm planning to buy the gaming laptop. I know that Alienware products are overpriced as hell but I can't find any better gaming laptops. How is m9700?

There are other companies that have gaming laptops for sale.

Im in the process of looking for a laptop, so Ill post what ive found here.

A look at the alienware m9700 reviews seem to place the processor (amd turion) as a serious bottleneck, making the sli cards pointless. And the turion is single core, apparently. So ive personally moved on from alienware and am looking at these:

The Dell xps (one on the right)
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/notebooks_best?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

The Rock XCTX-PRO-T72 (one on the left)
http://www.rockdirect.com/viewNotebook.php?pName=XTREME CTX PRO

Both of these cost the same (1399 quid) and the only difference is that the XPS has a 2.16 instead of a 2.0, and a 160 gb 5400rpm drive instead of a 100gb 7200rpm as in the rock.

both have NVIDIA GeForce 7950 Go GTX 512MB, 1gig of ram, dvd writer drive etc

Anyone got any thoughts?

ummm...

Hey, cabbs and Combine.

You might want to wait 2-3 weeks before making your purchase. You might see something from AW that has 17" WUXGA, Intel Centrino Duo, dual NV Go 7950 GTX, up to 400GB in RAID 0 or 1, integrated TV tuner with DVR, blue ray, 7.1 HD surround support, etc. You might. It might perform 15-25% faster than anything out there, including the mALX and XPS m1710. It might look like this:

Cheers Champion. How does the Centrino duo compare to the Core 2?

Also, it seems that laptops with nvidia m DX10 cards will be available as of june, so ill be waiting till then.

Thanks for the info. so the new m9750 might be faster than malx in gaming performance?

mights

Centrino Core 2 Duo is essentially the mobile version of the Core 2 Duo. Pretty much the same differences between mobile and desktop processors that there always have been, except that the performance gap seems to be closing. There's a ton of info on both on intel.com. All you really need to know is that they're the fastest mobile CPUs out there, much faster than the Turions.

The m9750 is generally faster than the mALX. How much depends upon CPU, memory, GPU (and to a lesser extent HDD)configuration as always, but high spec units are testing significantly faster. Read some of the "sneak preview" reviews.

Good hunting.
