A hefty sized update has been released for pretty much every platform available through Steam, and the Steam platform itself has been updated as well.
  • Steam Client
  • You can now join the Friends Beta via the Friends button inside of Steam.
  • The Steam hardware survey has been updated, with improved detection of graphics card hardware and sound card detection. Results are available here
  • Added System information help menu option which shows the hardware information detected for the survey
  • Fixed offline mode not working for users who account names that are all digits with leading zeros
  • Fixed actively preloading games showing as paused in the mini-games list
  • Fixed case where store page could become stuck displaying 'loading...' and never show a page
…And those are just the Steam client updates![br]To see the other updates, head on over to the Steam News Page for a complete changelog.

well first of all, the steam hardware detection failed to detect my SLI system

I have two 7800gtx and yet steam couldn't find any SLI in my system ?

hmmmm buggy

Why do so many people have a P4 but have not turned on the HT technology? Don't you people know you get a big performance boost from it? You can turn it on in the bios btw. :dozey:

Not all Pentium 4's have HT by a long shot, and an even smaller proportion of motherboards let you turn it on if you buy a shop pc (eg my mates alienware has an HT capable cpu but the mobo is nerfed).

Sweet, but it seems to me the games are going to take rather long to update.

It'll also be a pleasant surprise if Friends were integrated into third-party games (hint, hint). But darned small chance anyways.

the favorites was fixed a while ago I think. unless your talking about something else?

AMD-INTEL

Interesting

(It also thought that my AMD Athlon64 3400+ is running 2.5ghz... It's at 2.2 currently.)

Anyone know if Friends will work with RO? Or for that matter, any of the non-Valve games?

I need some friends! Add me mackey610 :D

Friends works with steam no matter what games are installed,
but to have features like showing when playing a game and ingame friends has to be game supported, they mentioned in a interview that they gave the code for it to other developers using steam but its up to them if they want to add it.

Hmm I was hoping it would fix the huge client animations for me but I can't tell as the whole showbudget window is acting weird now.
Wel judging on my fps it still isn't :(

Yes, that's really what I was thinking about, if Friends would show a friend playing RO, and if you could access the friends list from the main menu in RO.

Not a life or death issue, but would be nice.

So did they get it right this time?

Yes, they did.

But what sucks about this update is what it did to Garry's Mod. This new update practicly ruins half the game. For example:

NPC's spawn with crowbars, no matter what.

All multigun tools are replaced with the rope tool function( no more remover :( )

Listen servers/dedicated serversw are buggy and tend to crash the host/players.

Often the sounds of guns firing are not heard. No bullet holes.

And Valve doesn't seem to really care :(

Valve aren't obliged to ensure that their updates don't break mods. It's the modmaker's job to fix their product to Valve's engine, not the other way round.

You think they would put effort in fixing a mod they often recognize?
