With all this business of dates not being kept and alot of people being ****ed off, I thought maybe we should have a little poll just to see what people would prefer and to show Valve what the majority of us would like or are prepared to do to get one of the most eagerly awaited titles.

As my title says, "All good things come to those who wait" and I think this is one of the sayings we should exercise with HL2 and CS:S. While I am sure everyone would want the games right now, I would have also thought that you would not want it to be full of bugs.

Anyway, lets see...

But if it takes too long then people lost interest in it cause there might be other things out that are just as good or even better.

Well, this is the problem. How many times does CS:S and HL2's release have to be put on hold before, you interest starts to waiver and you just get sick of waiting? Maybe it would have been better if Valve said nothing and only when they knew they could make a release date, would they start to hype it up.

Me personaly am growing tired of waiting. Its like waiting for Christmas for the present you wanted so much and then when Christmas comes, your told you can look at it but you cannot play with it ;(

Frustration would be the perfect word.

The longer we wait, the better the game is. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that arrangement.

The anger over the delays is 10 times less potent that whatever would be sparked by a buggy, flawed game.

what i want to see in counter strike source is flyable jets and race cars :D

Well waiting all these years for Doom 3 totally disproves the "all good things come to those who wait" theory.

Well ****.

While I'm pissed at Valve for messing up again. I'm even more pissed at myself. I bought CZ expecting to play CS:Source on the 28th (as it was stated back then... preload). Then I learnt that 28th was likely date for cafe owners.
I didn't mind as long as I got to try it out sometime around 5th Aug.

So much for that.

I have family obligations to which I will attend through the latter half of August. If CS:Source Beta isn't out by then. I would have wasted the money on CZ.

Ofcourse, the fault is mine. Yet, I am pissed off at Valve for being blubbering idiots... who can't stick to a date.

As for the theory of the longer the wait, the better the product. How do you know that they are infact working on HL2... AT ALL. Last I checked, we were told that HL2 would be completed for a September 2003 release. For all you know, Valve might just be waiting for the stars to align in a specific geometric pattern. :upstare:

erm...
you're still going to be able to play the CS:S beta, and its going to be great.
Also, cz's far from not worth the money, it's awesome!
And calling valve idiots is just stupid. they must have some brains if they made arguably one of the best games of all time

CZ is not absolutely terrible. It is enjoyable. I infact posted a favorable review of it (if 5 lines constitutes a review) on the 26th (after Valve had not started preloading CS:Source to cafes).
But to what extent, I have played it a grand total of 7 times. And haven't bothered to load it up again, just playing CS when I get the time.
So, from my perspective, CZ is only worth 7 times of 20-30 mins of play. That to me is not really worth $39.
Anyhow, I bought it... for the wrong reasons maybe. I am not blaming Valve for CZ being bad. For buying a game like CZ for $39, I'm only blaming myself. Willing to consider myself an oaf to have been so greedy.

Calling Valve idiots is not stupid. It holds water, since Valve have been made to look like idiots through no fault of ours. They just appear idiotic when they spew words that they can't back several times over. Its silly.

1:CZ is worth more than just the Beta. If you dont like what CZ gives you, to bad. Thats not VALVes foult.

2:How can you call them idiots just because they dident deliver on that date, without knowing the couse? They may have gotten some unexpected minor problems. And they said preloading on 5th Aug, and open on 10th Aug. Still 4 days left for preloading. They'll probably delay it like a week or two.
Ranting out like that is just plain idiotic.

3:Yes Valve said that the content in HL2 was finished. Just polishing left.
And 'the last time i checked'? When was that? October last year?
valve never said that HL2 was finished September last year. Afterwards Gabe said that they were far to optimistic, and dident realise how much they had left until it was to late. The game will come out in 1-3months. And for all you know, valve could be sending packs of headcrabs at your house right now.

Stopp being such winers. :|

Uh...riiight...Try HL Rally..

Anyways, I don't mind waiting..makes the game 80% better, than if they were to release it right now. Would you rather have a game with a million bugs in it, RIGHT NOW, or have a practically bugless game, by next month?

I suggest making HL2 sigs, wallpaper, fan art, models, AIM themes, and emoticons to make the time pass quicker..it'll keep your mind on what you are doing. Although, it might make you want the game more..but its still fun to make all the HL2 fan art :E

Lol, thanks for repeating exactly what I said in MY own post.

I'm calling them idiots because they don't know when to keep there eagre mouths shut. Giving off dates that they have yet to keep. Sep 2003... Beta... Release of benchmark.... Release of high quality binks over Steam. Just to name a few.

About Sep 2003, I was being sarcastic. It was mentioned to point out how well they have managed to keep things on track. That was just one of many examples. What reliable source provided you with this information that the game will be out in 1-3 months. Its ofcourse funny to note... 1-3 months sort of overshoots the Summer release. AGAIN claimed by Valve.

Lets just put it this way. Expect HL2 anytime in the future. Probably later than sooner?

I'm a winner????? SWEET.
Atleast I'm not a whiner.
:rolling:

i voted the middle one, as seeing as this is the beta and not the full version of CS:S, i dont care how crappy it is. I can understand that they want it to be good when it is released, but its a beta for gods sake, it doesnt need to be perfect. Im not that bothered about the beta being delayed (as long as i get to play it for 2 weeks in my summer holidays), but i would prefer to KNOW what date it is going to come out on, rather than HOPING.

If nothing unexpected it'll come out in that time.

What are you guys so obsessed with? It's at the very most 5 FREKEING MONTHS! 5! or less! not that long time.

Now they'r probably mostly adding the final polich and working on all the things that are commin with HL2(like Source conversions and other things)

"Release the game already! Add the rest later!" some might say.
But that kinda deffeats the purpous of the collectors edition. And Id rather have all at once.

Ahh, what the hell.

Good on ya guys (VALVe) for making such great games  that even now I still love playing... How many other games can last that long?

EXACTLY! it is a BETA! so people, stop saying "i am willing to wait a few extra days for the beta to be bug free and perfect" if it was bug free and perfect, they would not need beta testers!

well my definition of making the game better is not ironing out bugs, making the game better is improving it, not just fixing the current product.

I voted 2 becuase yes id like them to start preloading a working game that isnt filled with bugs, but at the same time u can only delay the release so many times b4 ppl stop caring. too many more delays and i think their sales will suffer. hope the beta isnt shortned becuase of any delays :/

Valve is starting to piss me off so badly that I'd rather download Half-Life 2 rather going out and buying the retail product...

Yeah, I'm sure Valve would love to swamped with bug reports of bugs they already know.

I know I'd rather release a beta which I think to be perfect and have every bug report mean something then just release something that hasn't finished internal bug fixing and testing.

Anyway, the bugs could be really serious. Such as "Models not displaying on Geforce 3 cards" or something.

Doom 3 is out next Friday so I can wait for a while.
