I recently purchased The Orange Box off of steam and began downloading the games. I played Portal, which worked fine, and decided to move on to HL2, but that message came up. I tried it with Lost Coast, and the same thing happened. (I haven't downloaded Episode 1+2, but I assume the same will happen.)
Steps taken:
Reinstalled Steam
Redownloaded and reinstalled HL2
Updated DirectX
Updated video driver
Searched on google for a VERY long time
I am using Windows XP on an Apple iMac with:
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon 1600x
1.83GHz dual core intel processor
I've found old threads about the same problem, but none that I saw had any definite solutions, but one person did point out that something like this is more of a troubleshooting thing. Some suggested turning off all open applications and disabling ones that open on startup.
As you can see I'm in a bit of a pickle. Any help is greatly appreciated.
