All my mod concepts become too good to be mods.

well, my problem is that whenever I begin developing a mod concept, it becomes too good to waste on a mod, and so I start over.. I have started over like 3 times, but hopefully this time I can come up with something more fit for a mod. So do any of you have any suggestions for keeping concepts on a mod level?
I dunno, hopefully that didnt sound too weird.. :\

what the hell else do you use them for?

Are you implying that the Source engine (or any mod engine for that fact) isn't good enough for your mod idea?
Let's hear them then...

I am a freelance artist working in the gameing industry, though one day I would like to have a more secured job and hopefully when that happens I'd be able to voice my ideas and allow my concepts to come to life in a full game..

Right now, my life could change any moment I think. I do not have time for a huge project, I want to keep a mod concept on a smaller scale which is easier to handle and make. I dunno, maybe that isn't possible..

i dunno, i guess it was a stupid question..

bah, talk is cheap, anyone can claim their mod idea is too good and then not show it, prove it.

I think he means he wants his mods to have things source can't provide. Like 500 players in a server or something.

I dunno, Kitty:

What could possibly be so great that you can't show it?
Is it so cool that we'll melt from the coolness like the Nazis who raided the lost ark did?
If so, thank you for sparing us!

If not, then what's going on? The entire purpose behind modding is to create a good game. Nobody picks only thier crappy ideas for a mod and saves the good ones for later.

Like what was already said: What else would you use them for?

Some of my ideas are too good for mods. That's why they're becoming commercial games.

/me stops showing off now

*63 kicks Pi in the face*

Can someone lock this? im not going to make a mod.. :)

If you're not making a mod, can you post some of your ideas so we can use them in our mods? :E

I think he means that the scale of the concepts he does is too big for a small, amateur mod team. I had that problem a lot of times, but now I'm really getting to a point where I manage to get something cool, immersive and fun in a "can do" mod.

Hmmmm, if your so pro why are u asking us for ideas? Surly if you want to become something you should make up your own. Just a thought.

don't worry about it..
I wasnt asking for ideas.

anyways, things have changed now, which makes this thread seem rather retarded for being started, sorry for the confusion..

how can anyone in the gaming industry not research or understand the exact limitations of games engines for modding.? thats my question

if he was in the gaming industry wouldnt you have a solid thought on what you can and cant do with your idea. basically making this thread pointless .... meh , we all wish we could do more I suppose.

maybe he wants an engine that can do more, and look better. ? keep waiting for it dude. only 2 more years or so till the next-next gen engines show up :P

Small and amatuer? Hell, some mod teams these days are of the strength and quality of some professional developers.

I know exactly what your are saying, well at least I think I do.

1) Your ideas become to grand that any ideas of realisticly completing these mods is..well..not realistic.

2) Your ideas become so awsome, they almost resemble the personification of a child. Your idea becomes far to precious to you that it almost hurts to think of giving it up to the gaming comunity.

That happens to me a lot of times. I think up a really cool idea for a game, and it starts out as just a small gameplay idea. But then it grows, and I build on it for so long, that it eventually becomes larger than any of the big-name games coming out soon. So then I either throw out all but the original thought, or remember the entire idea for when I dream I'll become a lead designer :P

But with about 95% of the rest of my ideas, they all end up being game ideas that have an extremely small chance of ever working, like the Human Body RTS, or Kung-Fu Football (which is now MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, no stealing!), which I thought about a long time, and figured would probably work best on Xbox Live, with every member of a football team controlled by a player. But I disgress

But it seems that soon, mod teams will BECOME the popular developers, close to what it was originally in the industry. And the cycle will start anew.
