...every month. I was looking at the Steam statistics page and noticed the incredible figure of 7.634 billion Player Minutes / Month. By my calculations this is over 14,000 years every month. I'm pretty sure that that's longer than all of human history, every month, spent playing Counter-Strike. Wow.

That's pretty sad. Good find though.

Oh yeah, and I just checked and it gave me these numbers
8.899 billion minutes (16,932 years)

Dangerous research you are messing with god there.

Human history is quite a bit longer than 14,000 years (closer to a million years, although civilization for less, but still longer than 14,000), but that's still an unbelievable amount of Counterstrike.

Especially given that it's not even in the peak of it's popularity anymore :O

With that many players you would think the forums would be a little more popular nowadays

I doubt that most CS players know how to use the internet beyond double clicking the CS 1.6 icon. Arguably it's popularity is thanks to a very large degree of the ability of the old computers in primary and secondary schools and Chinese net cafes to run the game and nothing more advanced. And of course the Germans, psychopathic gamers that they are.

 good post. I play 120-140mins a day... its my share out of the above

What's the point of looking at it that way?
I wonder what will the figure be with WoW. Quick, draw your calculators.

9 million Wow players and they all play 24/7. Yes, every single one of them. It's not a lie, like the cake. :P
388,800,000,000 player minutes / month
right?

I don't really like CS that much, if at all. I've played it a few time's, Im not too found of it. It's just that I can't stand not respawning, I NEED TO RESPAWN!!!

Yeah, yeah! I know I suck at it. I don't care if I suck. I can get killed all I want in DOD or whatever. But... but to have to wait five minutes to play because of it? Outrage.

DOD ****ing pwns counterstrike.

But the 14,000 year number is the average for 1 month, right?
So multiply by 12 months in a year and how many years CS has been going (8?).

By human history I meant the amount of time humans have really been recording history. I know I'm probably still way off. But I was only really saying it to sound impressive.

So far I have played 41.4 hours this week. I'm not sure when the week started for Steam communities (signed up yesterday), but that's what it says. Needless to say I was surprised. That's longer than I intend to work.

To be fair, all of time up until the 14,000 years begins is spent playing tetris, mario, and super smash bros, respectively.

I should point out that the Homo genus has exist for 1.5 to 3 million years (estimates vary), and Homo Sapiens Sapiens have been around for about 200,000 years.

I haven't played it in ages, and when I did it was only say like once a week. When i did play it, I ****ing owned though lol. Playing with friends who like ALWAYS played it, and that get owned to next wednesday by me xD

God created us 4000 years ago, so we've played CS longer than the history of the Earth!

That's incredibly awesome and sad at the same time; awesad even.
