Alyx frozen and game can't progress

I was playing the Entanglement chapter of Half Life 2 (the original game) on Playstation 3 and I had just beaten the part in Nova Prospekt where the Combine turns out the lights in the basement, throws out flares, and there's a big firefight (shortly after we find out that Mossman was the one who betrayed everyone). Afterwards Alyx starts heading up the stairs on the far side of the basement, but I ran back to the other way to pick up some healthy/energy that I had left behind. I ran back across a load screen and when I came back to the dark basement, Alyx is just frozen in place. The game can't progress any farther because she's needed for a scripted sequence up ahead.

Unfortunately, both of the saves I have are overwritten by quicksaves from after this freeze has already happened. Loading one of these saves from scratch doesn't seem to fix the problem. Am I completely screwed here? Do I have to just suck it up and restart the entire game?

I also tried killing myself, which doesn't work, because the game just loads my last save. And I tried killing Alyx with grenades, etc. but she's immune to anything I do.

What you can do is use this cheat "Left, Left, Left, Left, L1, Right, Right, Right, Right, R1", this will unlock all the levels. then all you need to do is replay Entanglement. Seeing as you are on the PS3 version that's all you can do as it's only the PC version which has access to the developers console.

Yeah I had sort of the same problem I was playing HL2 episode 1, and I was going up some stairs and I look behind me to realize alyx isnt there, so I go back down to encounter a loading screen. I keep running and I find her staring at a wall. But once I got close she started to follow me. but listen. THAT SHOULDNT HAPPEN EVERY TIME YOU LOAD FROM YOUR SAVE. that usually means your disc is scratched. Give it a break and then try again. or try cleaning your disc. If not you could try to lure enemies to her and try to have them kill her for you. mabe she will react to being hit, and unfreeze. Like they said, consoles suck for half life. I have orange box for 360 and it gets really laggy sometimes.
