me and my friends are in a hockey pool, and we all get assigned players. When one of us has a player, nobody else can have him. We all had 10 dollars thrown into the pool and whoever wins gets all the money. Anyways, my friends accuse me of being cheap for this: recenty one of hockey pool members decided he no longer wanted to look after his team. Having markus naslund on his team, i offered him a trade for ray whitney. Because he didn't really care he accepted an i gained possession of naslund in exchange for whitney. Now everybody in my pool is saying how i was being cheap and unfair. Nobody forced robert to trade him to me. I just offered a trade that was accepted. What do u guys think?

you're a shark what can i say. you saw an opportunity and you took it. the other's should be beheaded for being so slow on the uptake. stand by your decision.

is it possible for any of the mods to hack the poll and change my vote from Yes to No? i stupidly voted for Yes without realising.

btw what's confusing about it? doesn't seem complicated at all.

Who voted unfair!?!?

Anyway; you weren't being unfair. He agreed to the trade.
In fact, he apparently sparked it. I say you were merely seizing an opportunity for success. You shouldn't feel bad because your friend's a sucker. ;)

EDIT: Aha! So, it was you Dedalus! :)

ghost could u plz change it? its important i do well in the poll to prove to my friends its not unfair

:O when did you become a moderator GhostValkyrie ?!

wow i'm out of touch.

i guess your friends' point is that these players were originally chosen randomly, right? and now it's not random anymore...so it seems unfair

no we're all allowed to trade. Everybody is allowed to drop players they dont want and pick up players they do as long as that player isn't taken by someone else. The only random part was the original draft. But after that, they've been trading amongst eachother with other players.

lol...if you're allowed to trade then what's their problem? you traded and that's that...wtf.

i know, but they figure that ray whitney sucks even tho he's LW for detroit red wings. So they figure i took advantage of the situation because it was an "unfair trade" as they called it. Last i checked, to get anywhere in the world, yur supposed to TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SITUATIONS that are presented to u.

they're just pissed off cos they were too dumb to think of doing that in the first place.

if you're allowed to trade, i don't see how any trade can be unfair.

It feels great being called out of my jursidiction...too bad that's exactly what this forum is. I can't do anything outside of Hl2 Discussion. In fact, I'm not even sure I can edit polls there. I'm willing to bet I can't.
Anyway; Until I become a Super Mod, *wink wink nudge nudge* I can't do anything to help you.

Sorry.:(

Dedalus - I became a Mod the day before Halloween.

woohoo!

badger, all looks no brains eh?

ok, jon and his buddies have a sort of fantasy football league going. they each throw in some money and whoever wins gets to keep the whole thing. well one of his friends decided he really couldn't give a toss about it and left his team to rot. so clever little Jon here thought he could get in there quick and get some decent players. so he traded a weaker player for a stronger one. of course, his mate not caring about his team anymore, decided to let him go with no hassle.

now, Jon's friends are pissed off because they feel that he's being cheap and sneaky little shit. which in fact is not the case, he's simply being an opportunist. seeing the opportunity and taking it. his friends are just bitter because they're not clever enough to think of that in the first place.

or else they did think of it and thought it was dishonourable and didn't do it....

Where's the "Fantasy Sports is the jock version of trading Pokemon cards" option?

lol agreed iamironsam too right fanasy sports is boring and expensive (sometimes)

I am in the pool and what Dedalus said on his last statement is true. The person who quit (robert) still has some good players on his team, and I'm sure would trade them no problem. The thing is though that...
1) we're using a format where each person's team plays head to head, so if Roberts team had no good palyers left it'd be like a freebie to play against his team.
2) There are 8 teams in the league meaning if we were to divide up the rest of roberts players equally there wouldn't be enough for everyone and it would be unfair
3) Jon's team is in first and really doesnt need a player like Naslund
4) Everyone else in the leauge is declining to take any of Roberts good players except Jon, meaning we could if we wanted to, but we find it more fun and fair if Robert keeps all his players

point 4. why not take his players? it's beffudling. they're there for you to take. it's clear this other fellow isn't bothered about his team so free lunch for all right?

and to be honest, i wish i hadn't added that last part to my post because i knew you'd use it as a lifeline.

anyway, it was a fair trade between competitors. i'm sure you could do the same. there's nothing wrong with it. your friend is willing to lose his money and his team so go for it.

point 3. NEVER sit on your laurels. if you're the best, then someone's hot on your heels to take your place when you slip up, so you have to keep ahead and keep fresh. that's what Jon is doing. simple no?

point 1. is it a problem if every time you play Robert's team you are guarunteed a win?

Ya but it would'nt be fair to get the rest of his players because everyone else in the league has agreed not to except Jon, and if we did divide the rest of roberts players up a couple people wouldn't recieve any decent players as Robert only has so many on his team.

Let me ask you this. What if I joined my team up with someone elses, and just put all our best players on one team. It's the same thing Jon did only on a greater scale. Would that not be unfair to everyone else. If you say no, then what if everyone joined up with someone else and it kept going like that. It would ruin the experience for everyone and make the pool stupid.

there's a line you can't cross because over that line you get into stupid country. if jon's only taken 1 player then so be it. dissolve the rest of robert's team. i'm sure there are some useful players in there, even if they're not spectacular you could use them as backup or whatever.

and if two people wanted to merge their teams then i think they could, since you haven't stated a rule saying that it isn't allowed. but of course going that way would defeat the whole purpose of a pool.

u know thats not true. U said u offered him trades because u want his players. And the reason now that yur deciding not to do anything like taking good players for bad ones is because i've already got the best one and u guys want me to return him, so this way u can say that u chose not too, when really u would, its just that i've already gotten to main person

funny how the league decided not to go for his players after I GOT NASLUND (the best one) cause they'd rather me not have him than them being able to take second rate players from robs team

I would say "It's only a game" except that it's not - it's a fantasy game!!!!

Is it really that important to you all!?! Why not just scrap the current teams and get random ones again, then agree on rules before starting.

actually we did offer robert trades, but that was before the fact that he quit, and they were decent and fair trades. And actually robert still has at least 2 really good players, that no one would mind having. thorton and Lang, and maybe Turco if he picks up his play again. Fiends

Actually if I really wanted players I could just get them from my brother, who has Tanguay and forsberg among others, who are the league leaders in points, but I don't think that would be very fair to everyone else.

Remember when you dropped Havlat and Jordan picked him up. That wasn't very fair and he could've kept him and be saying all the things your saying right now. I may have advised you to drop him, but ultimately it was your choice as well. It's just comes down to if you want to be chinsey and all business like about it or if you want to have fun and try to fair about it.
