My new computer is fairly done (it's usuable at least) and I ran the Far Cry demo thinking, "Wow, now I can experience it with full effects!"

Well, I start it and... um ...Max Payne 2 has sharper textures.

My thinking is, they disabled AA and AF? (I read the threads about AA problems but how about AF?).

Is it just because it's a demo they didn't provide high res textures? I can take a screenshot if you need an idea.

* Windows XP Pro
* P4 2.4CGhz
* Radeon 9800 Pro

All updates, all drivers.

The FC demo has alot of the more technical aspects disabled, it would seem.

Did you turn all the graphics options up to very high?

It looks pretty nice to me :\

Offtopic a bit: I wish my beta would still work, stupid cat 4.1's

First off, make sure your using cat 3.9s on far cry. It will allow you to enable AA in game, and will nearly DOUBLE your FPS. To enable AF:

go to your far cry demo folder, in the main folder there is a system.cfg file. open it in wordpad or notepad. Look for d3d9__TextureFilter = "TRILINEAR" now change the trilinear to ANISOTROPIC. Save that. Now scroll down a bit till you see r_Texture_Anisotropic_Level = "?" insert 2, 4, 8 or 16 where the ? is, now AF will be enabled. These features will only work while using cat 3.9;s, and people still have some problems with them too so it isnt guaranteed.

Also make sure that the AA and AF are disabled in the ati control panel.

I guess it depends on the system, I dunno. I've tried both the 4.1s and 3.9s, they run about the same. Don't expect double FPS if you up/downgrade to the 3.9s.

In fact, in my tests, it seems as though the 4.1s run a little smoother overall.

Indeed. I uninstalled the 4.1 and installed the 3.9 because of the AA problems.
When I ran it again,without AA, with all VH, the game whas way slower than before, maybe from 30FPS to 20FPs in av.
I tried it with AA and it got worse.

Plus it's 2 months from release, practically a beta...

i have basicly the same specs as u subkamran, and i set everything to very high... it looked the same as high but it ran VERY VERY slightly worse.... in other words not perfect, as it runs perfect on high.
and im presuming u have max payne 2... it was one of the first "good" games i got for my new pc, and i was really suprised it ran perfectly with everything set to high and the detail on the guns and faces.... astounding.

All games should be required to be as optimized as Max Payne 2 is.

I heard that for the demo they made the "Medium" settings be what the "High" settings will be in the final release. Anyone else hear that?
