Personally, HLS looks better than I expected. The gleam from the reflections on the doors and the lighting looks really nice.
 
From the gritty and reflective looking textures to some of the newer sound effects, I completely dig HL:S. My only gripe is with the models, but I think that's fixable.

Yeah they could atleast put in the new Headcrab, Zombie and Vortigaunt(sp?) models..
 
I hadn't played HL in about 3 years, and i guess my memory kept upgrading the textures every time a new game came out, because i never thought that it looked horribly dated. Then i fired up HL:S and realized that while at the time HL has probably the most realistic and detailed environments, these environments now did look rather dated.

But i think with new models, and high res textures, the low poly count of the levels could easily be glossed over, at least until BM:S is ready :)
 
I like all the new door/button/ambient sounds and stuff, anomolous materials feels a whole lot more solid now.

Ehh, if you do that, then those models will stick out like sore thumbs while at the same time making the rest of the models in the game look bad by comparison.

All or nothing is how it should be, IMO.

Yeah, HLS is really awesome, but I'm sure I'm not the first to say this but... I was told by tons of sources that hls would have blue shift high def models.... that's kinda a disappointment, but I mean seriously, 10 dollars more for something if I wasn't so lazy I could port some of the hl2 models into it.
 
Rumor says that Valve already ported models and they're working on textures now.
