This is just killer:

Every key of the Optimus keyboard is a stand-alone display showing exactly what it is controlling at this very moment.
The keys are like mini gameboy screens. :D

Go here to see it:

So, when you load Quake, your keyboard can change to look like this!

Older than the Earth itself.

Also, wrong forum.

New to me, but I bet the tech ancient.

Just not commercially feasible.

Your mom!

What do you mean? If I was rich, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It can't be that expensive. A few hundred dollars is nothing when it comes to the latest 'show off to your friends' gizmo's don't you think?

I agree, I just think the company will bankrupt itself trying to sell it to the masses. (:

I would only buy it if I just had a couple C notes just lieing around, and with my hobby, I do not.

I don't know, but I think it would sell itself. At an expected price it would certainly be a novelty, meaning they could ask whatever price they wanted, and expect very low volume sales from rich people who must have all the latest tech-toys. (my oldest brother)

My first thought was: if you wanted to use it as a regular keyboard, and your power went out, you wouldn't know which letters you're hitting. >_<

I made a thread on this a while ago. It's freaking awesome, but I have yet to see anything materialize :/

if the power went out...there'd be no point in typing on an unpowered computer anyway?

The letters are worn off of some of the keys on my keyboard. If you have learned the orthodox way of typing, you don't look at the keys though. When you begin to type, your hands just fall into place, because the F and J keys have bumps on them, to let your hands know they are in the right position.

But yea, the obvious is that if your power goes out, your PC won't work anyway. LOL. ;) Of course, people sometimes overlook the obvious.

Actually, I have an APC 1 hour battery backup surge suppressor. This thing was well worth the money. ($20 after rebate) If I'm working on my PC, and my power goes out, my computer stays on. I always save whatever I'm working on and quit right away though.

I feel so 'out of the loop'. I'm sorry, never even heard of it before now.

I know! That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw it. That's the reaction I expected from everyone. I like it. :D

I also used to like those keyboards with the lighted keys. Any of you ever used one of these? I never saw one in person though.

You shouldn't need to see the keyboard to type :O.

And you DEFINENTLY shouldn't need to see the keyboard to play a damn videogame. Seriously, if you had to look down to see what gun is which key or whatever you'd get slaughtered. It might be useful when you're just learning a game though with lots of keys to remember, such as America's Army...

It's not designed for gaming.

It's designed for image editing, graphics design, working in CAD, animating, those kinds of things.

You can look at the keyboard and easily see which key is hotkeyed to which tool.

Not to mention, that site is a couple of years old. We were chatting it up about this in the Hardware forum WAY back when.

So true.. This has been posted tons of times.

It's pretty interesting nonetheless. I'd buy one.

Old, but has anyone seen that keyboard you can bend around and crap?

Do you mean the ergonomic keyboard? It's like split down the middle.

If not.. .what the..?? I don't get it. Why would anyone need to bend their keyboard around?

I imagine it would be painful to crap a keyboard. What solution did they come up with?

I took the liberty of making you an avatar in the same vein as your picture.

You know, the website's said that for a couple years.

I also remember a few years back, the website said that the images you guys are goggling over were actually renders, and that they didn't really plan on manufacturing it past a few prototypes, as they couldn't get support for it.

This is old but has anyone seen the price of these things? Way up in the hundreds. :|

It won't take off, any dedicated gamer, would know where the keys are without needing to look at them. I can't see the point. Maybe in Strategy or MMORPGs where you have a key for everything, then possibly but FPS, no. :P

As i've already said...

IT'S NOT FOR GAMING!!!

I saw some movie that was about virtual reality, and her keyboard was blank like the one in that link. I asumed either they thought it looked cool, or because the movie seemed to be a russian import with lip synking.. or maybe they wanted to portray that she used it so much, for so many years, that the letters wore off.

The keyboard that came with my PC is like 2 years old but some of the letters are already fading out completely.

Specifically:

s,d,c,v,n,m,h,k,l,o and i.

i and n are completely gone. I would have thought w a s d would go first. Looks like they put extra paint on the W. ;)

I can't wait to get a new keyboard, this thing is total garbage. The volume controls and all of the internet buttons are cool, but to be honest I forgot they existed... they have a huge layer of dust on them since I've used them like once. The worst part is that the keys feel so mushy and cheap.. its like the springs are so worn out that I can type faster than they can spring back!

Wow, I really need this. So many hotkeys in Flash, Photoshop, etc. This will make it so much easier.

Besides, it uses OLED's so it uses barely any power and I'm sure the price will drop soon (as OLED's become more commonly used).

Sweet. I wouldn't mind buying one of those but I think I would not really read it. I just memorize where everything is before I start playing the game. But nice find.

This will probably sell well for the same reason that Apple sells well - there's quite a market for people who 'nice' looking computer hardware. I'll buy it depending on how well it works and if there's a wireless option (probably not, since it probably uses the abailable power from USB).
