should i go with an AMD 64 bit chip or and INtel pentiem 4 chip? i wanna spend between $200 and $300 on a processor, what do you guys think i should go with? gonna b doin lotta gaming, 3d animation, graphic design, web building. is a 64 bit chip even worth it since windows 64 isn't out yet?? though i am kinda leaning towards the 64 bit chips, i dont kno what'r your guys's thoughts?

The AMD64 cpu's tend to only run 32bit threads so they 64bit extensions remain unused most of the time. However in 32bit mode the amd64 cpu's are superior to thier intel counterparts in 3d apps.

If your buying it for games, AMd64 HANDS DOWN
but if your buying it for encoding decoding, and sound editing. stuff like that you should go with a pentium.

Funny how most of the time they are still using 32bit and still beats intel in most benchmarks. Can't wait to see what it does in 64bit!!!!!

Yes, defo get the AMD 64;s. And concerning coding and such, as far as i know, the intel is only really good at video encoding. Or audio, I forgot. But AMD 64 is really good at that sort of stuff too. And then price-wise it beats it :D i have just realised, why are people still buying P4's lol

yea its beter then the old 120nm i believe...i think it just runs alot cooler..i might be wrong though

AMD would be best for most apps.

Based on price alone, AMD wins.
A64 3200+ (193$), A64 3400+ (222$) or A64 3500+ (273$).
P4 3.0GHz (189$), P4 3.2GHz (220$), P4 3.4GHz (280$).

hey asus i like how you leave links too man, thats just great, keep up the good work, if i had to bet, your probably the best mod out there.

but i do sense a little bias from reading your posts towards favoring AMD, i dont konw just a little from previous posts, but hey keep up the good work.

na not biased. For me, i think the only thing that intel offers is numbers, such as 4ghz P4EE and such, that overclockers can brag about. But then here comes a Athlon FX guy, clocking it just over 3ghz and claims the speed crown. MWAHAHAHAHA *evil* :D

Like asus said said the athlon 64 is the better CPU at the moment in almost every application and not just games. They are also faster in most encoding applications unless you are comparing a cheap Athlon 64 to a P4 EE. Dont be worried about 90nm or anything like that it is only the process that is used to create a CPU. However a 90nm CPU should generally be a better overclocker and run cooler that a larger chip (130nm) Finally check out windows XP 64 bit edition when it comes out to see performance increases. Even beta benchmarks show major leaps in encoding performance in certain applications. You can check all of this inbfo out by searching anandtech and other hardware sites.

I say get whatever you would like, to me there isnt a huge difference, and my last 2 amd processors were early burnouts so i do not like em'

I went through P4 3.0, AMD 64 3200+ and P4 3.4 in one year and as far as I know I couldnt tell any difference..
those few frames per second dont really matter...it's all fast ;)

I am on Gulos side, well mine lasted longer (my p4) But i dont think there is a big speed notice...at least noticable by me.

The gap is larger than before. It's in titles like HL2 that you will notice the difference - especially in the heavy fight scenes.

Well you must have attention to detail because i have played on my dads comp with same everything only he has a athlon 3000+ and there wasnt anything to bitch and go buy a new processor for.

Personally I dont see why anyone would buy a pentium when for the same money they get a far superior AMD. There is alot more to how a CPU does calculations than just mhz and AMD has never let me down, owned 4 so far and never once had a cpu related problem.

And ya ASUS is the Big Daddy of mods, always fast and always shows where the info came from(kinda a STFU to those who dont know, lol).
