AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 & 4000+

Wh..wow.. Technology is involving insanely fast. I don't even think I'll upgrade until mid-late next year, as new waves of faster, more powerful technology will have been released, thus, rendering the (top of the line, at the moment) technology, cheap enough for lowly people such as the likes of me to buy.

Nice news bit.

Intel isn't going any faster... Maybe better but not faster.

Damn my bonus comes in at the end of November when I planned to buy a new system around a FX-53... I guess I'll have to see how the 55 is priced and if it forces the 53 price lower.

fx-53 still seems to be better. it beats out the 4000+ by a few frames, and the 55 beats out the 53 by a few frames. too little of difference for an upgrade. i hope the fx-57 will inspire me to upgrade. if not, fx-63 here i come! :p

FX-53 is the same thing as the 4000+.
2.4GHz and 1MB L2 Cache. The review you looked at might have used different boards or you were just looking at differences within the margin of error.

I thought the FX's were still based on opertons. Or did that change?

All Athlon 64's are based on Opterons but only the Socket 940 were the most like them with Registered memory. For a while now FX chips on S939 have retained both dual channel memory and 1MB L2 cache but AMD desided to use the 4000+ rating on what used to be FX-53 chips. They have a number of 2.4GHz CPUs now at different price ranges, features (dual channel memory/1MB L2 cache) and sockets. 3400+, 3700+, 3800+, 4000+ and the FX53. Although they have a 2.6GHz chip out now!
