Alright, I'm seriously about to start freakin out right about now:

I booted up my computer a few minutes ago, and it is saying that the processor is running at 1250 mhz. This is ludicrous because I know my 2800+ runs at 2079mhz, I've seen it boot up like that before.

I have a few theories as to why this might be:

1. I just installed a new Soundblaster Audigy2 ZX Platinum. I have no idea how this could affect something, but maybe I bumped something I shouldn't have or something....

2. My friend (or one of his friends) is a dirtbag. I just got back from a week in San Antonio the other day, and he killed all my wife's plants (he was housesitting for us). Not on purpose, but he did some other fairly weird things around the house that I don't care to talk about right now. According my neighbors, who we are very good friends with, he had some people over a couple times, so I don't know if any of them might have decided to swap out my proc or anything. I highly doubt this situation, but it is running through my mind right now.

3. FM, aka ****ing magic. This is the one I'm leaning towards.

WTF do I do??? How do I find out what is wrong? AIDA32 says this:

HelP!!!

Well what do you know, the FSB was set to the wrong freq in the BIOS....

Of course it was.
Now you know that's the first thing to look for!

Heh, NOW you all show up, AFTER I'm done freaking out... :p :dork:

If your CPU is running at the wrong frequency the FIRST thing you should do before you panic is to check the FSB MHz speed and then the CPU clock multiplier. :E Your CPU runs off a 166MHz bus speed with a 12.5x multiplier.

XP2800 - FSB should be at 166 and the multiplier frequency should be at 12.5.

Sort these out it will read as an XP2800+ running at 2087(ish) MHz.

I've heard a lot of stories about XP's fsb messing up the readings.

Oh. Well, this is a story about the user misconfiguring the system, not about the XP FSB messing up the readings.

Well, the board reads the Multiplier but you have to set the FSB.
Unless there is a jumper set to force it to 200.

Yeah what Pobz said. Plus I think the only fsb that is 200 is the 3200+ barton?? right

There are Athlon XP 3000+ and 3200+ models that have a 200MHz FSB.
There is also a 3000+ model with 166MHz FSB.

Yeah I have the 3000+ model with 166MHz FSB, its nice, I am really liking it so far, overclocking will come in another day or two :E
