The new 6 core AMDs are generally a little better for rendering, and that's about it. Otherwise, it tends to get beat (in some cases quite thoroughly). The idle power consumption of the i5-750 and i5-860 are remarkably lower.
No regrets having bought an i5-750 in November.
Still, if you have a dedicated rendering box, you might benefit from these 6 core chips that are set at $200 and $300: EDIT - especially if you already have the correct motherboard.
