AMD's system of speed measurement?

Hey. I know how Intel says "3.2GHz" or whatnot, but I have NO clue what AMD's is. I don't know if a AMD 3200 is good or not, and this is bad since I'm buying a computer with decent parts. Can someone tell me what the AMD system of speed measurement is?
 
3200 is like 2.0ghz or something I think. I seem to remember that '3200+' thing is (or at least was with the socket 754s) the effective ghz speed, when compared to say a regular Intel processor at the time.
 
It's equivalent to a 3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4, even though it runs at about 2.2GHz.
 
Technically AMD says their model names are to indicate the performance compared to their original Athlon CPU if it were clocked at 3.2Ghz (for the 3200+ CPU). You can also compare it to Intel's older Pentium 4 like A64 3200+ to P4 3.2Ghz although the A64 will be faster in most things compared to the P4.

Core 2 Duo goes the same direction AMD was in. Lower clock speeds but they do more per cycle. But you can't directly compare these two by GHz since they are different still.

OK...And back to the topic, I agree that without decent parts like good MOBO and such, fast CPU is very useless in two lane highway or unorganized fast-food type motherboard. 3200 comes in sockets 754, 939 and AM2, and no the number has nothing to do with CPU speed and the comparison to its rival Intel, its just model number. Their stock speed range from 1.8GHz-2.0GHz. If you're just building and kind of tight on cash, get socket AM2 SLI or PCI-e Motherboard (Abit, DFI and Asus)are your best choices and set yourself up for the future. Also do research for the Internet for reviews and best choice for the buck.

Yeah, I thought it was silly in a sense to have the names for their CPUs like that. It's misgiving imho. But oh well, it has a sense. Personally, if you're going for good, go for the duo....if you're getting completely new.
 
AMD and Intel both have Ghz numbers, however the higher Ghz means little when it comes to how fast the processor will work.

There is no real universal processor measurement, your best at looking at programs that compare how fast a processor can do a certain operation. Some processers are better at X operation and some better at Y.

I gave up caring about the numbers, I now look at benchmarks...muwahaha
