I was looking around the net for Saw4 but couldnt find good quality of it. So i stumbled upon American Gangster, so it thought "what the hell, why not? nothing better than gangstas shoting each other".

At first the movie was quite booring, i was about to hit the stop button and do something else, but then the movie became amazing, it had me hooked. Its based on a true story and is just increadibly insanly good!!! A must watch! Its not what the title might suggest, it isnt an action movie with gangsters shoting each others heads off, theres MUCH more too it.

Takes place in the 60s

It actually takes place in the 70s iirc.

And yes, the movie is fan-****ing-tastic.

12 trillion times better than the shit that is Saw 4.

Denzel Washington is one of my favourite actors but I had never heard of this movie. I'll definitely be checking it out, cheers.

Says 1968 in the opening and how can you say it was a little boring? The first scene was a guy getting burned to death then shot. Then there was a scene in which a guy was beaten up in a bathroom in a scene similar to Scarface. I'm watching it now and it's pretty good. *Basically Scarface Americanized and grittier. Made by Ridly Scott too.

I Am sorry but the movie is very mediocre.
I expected much more from Ridley Scott.
His brother probably would've done a much better job with the script.
Comparing this to Scraface is laughable.

So does the movie actually depict him as the truly cruel son of a bitch he was? He did some seriously ****ed up shit. I saw him speaking on Gangland on history channel.

Not really, Raziaar. The movie portrays Frank Lucas as a ruthless killer, surely, but moreso a business man.

The movie was amazing.

It is kind of a shame they glamorize him a lot when they don't go into the more sinister things he's done.

It is a movie I wanted to see since I first saw the trailer a good long while ago. I'll have to wait until it comes out on satellite though.

No, no... you've got it mixed up.
Scarface was mediocre and comparing it to American Gangster is laughable.

Have to agree that the beginning was really really really boring, but then it shifts gear and just keeps on accelerating to the end.

oh btw, didnt Westley Snipes star in a movie similar to this? Story wise? I coudlnt help but to familiarize with that movie, forgot what it was called tho. However, in that verison he was portrayed as WAY MORE brutal.

IMDB disagrees with you.

Scarface = 8.1

American Gangster = 8.5

I haven't seen the film but for some reason it reminds me of The Wire.

I know it wont be as good as The Wire though.

Woe is me.

Why are we saying which movie is better when they were both great films? I just finished watching it and it was really a fantastic film.

I just watched scarface and it is a little over the top.

Just got done watching American Gangster, it was a great movie, but not the best of the year, it was like any other film of it's type (Blow, Scarface, Donnie Brasco)

I thought 3:10 to Yuma was a lot better, best film of the year maybe
