Okay, of course most people who are outside the US know about the dominant national parties, the Republicans and the Democrats.
While these two parties also hold a majority of seats outside of national politics on a lower level, the playing field is a lot more level and other groups can come into play much easier. Third parties may rarely win national seats but VERY often they take more local seats, sometimes even state seats (less often though) A lot of people outside the US don't realize the 2 party domination isn't as strong on a local level as it is on a national level.
Sometimes third parties will fund, support, etc a candidate under the banner of one of the 2 dominant parties for national election. For instance, sometimes the Socialists have a few in national office under the Democratic Party, the Libertarians a few in office under the Republican Party AND Democratic Party, etc.
I'd like to now make a thread compiling every US party that can be found. Some of these don't even operate on a national level yet as far as elections go.
Hehe, for once a thread not involving debate between us members, but fitting politics!
There are some others I found too, but I saw no evidence of them actually -doing- anything besides existing so I didn't list them. All of these are active. Post more if you know of them or any that are active in your area.
Here we go!
