I'm really interested in the idea of making soundtracks and themes, and i tried doing something with strings. it's quite sombre.

i'd rather you make your own associations but what I had in mind was something like the ending of a film where the main character, with his last dying breath, performs an act of heroism. or maybe something really sad like a mothers daughter being taken away from her.

I suck quite alot at making themes for different scenarios like this so that's why I really would like to get some criticism and hear what you think.

It'd be really fun to make music for HL2 mods, do you think maybe it's something I should try?

I really enjoyed that, good work. And i'm sure there are plenty of Mods out there in need of a good score, so go for it

Not bad, but give your high string something to do, make it more rhythmic than your harmony strings. As of now, all their rhythms are the same. I think you can bring the upper strings in the beginning, maybe some eigth-sixteenths rhythm.
Not very game-like though. Just don't see it. Not a criticism, just an observation. More cinematic than game-y.

thank you, that's definitely the kind of advice i need to hear. yeah it's not much of a game soundtrack, it was meant as more of a film thing. i'm working on a more war/game focused track that's going to be more orchestral.
