...imagine yourself, sitting at your computer thinking you want to start a mod... then you get some people together and make some files to play around with in hl, blabla.
A year later you have a decent mod going with a small communitee...

little do you realize you are creating the multiplayer for half life 2.

I bet the kids makin counter strike are thinking "how the hell did this happen?!" lol. (i know they arn't kids, well, not anymore.)

I can't even come up with what they could be thinking, it's just too insane... a group of kids doing something they like for fun turns out to have spawned such a massive communitee dedicated to a mod that has now become official half life 2 multiplayer.

...damn them. >_<;

I'd kick them in the nuts for making CS in the first place.

What is so hard to believe? It's not like video game developers are cut from a different mold than other people. They just happen to have the right combination of talent, drive, financial situation, etc. to make it happen. Mod making is very similar and even has some benefits over commercial games.

Yeah, the CS story is actually pretty unique and cool. Very rags to riches.

I don't think they are millionares or anything close to it... they just got a job...

They're probably thinking, "It's great making tons of money working at Valve." I'm pretty sure they all got hired on full time, Cliffe definitely.

I never liked CS, too arcady for me. Are there any good realistic mods up for HL²?

The mod I'm making is very unique and is sure to rival that of CS. First you have two sides: Bad Guys and Counter Bad Guys. You start out each round with a pistol and you have to buy new weapons! The way you make money is by killing players of the opposing team or doing an objective, like if you are a Bad Guy planting a bomb at a bomb site or if you're a Counter Bad Guy defusing a bomb at a bomb site. There will be other objectives too, like hostage rescue. Here is the catch though, when you die you have to wait for everyone on either team to die or complete an objective! This way you can watch people until the next round begins.

personally I hate CS as i pretty much blame it for the explosion in online cheating

Most people seeks fast thrills and don't care about realism, also "they" seem to dislike having to learn more than run-jump-shoot. That is why CS has such a large following.

You guys are just angry because CS is Hl2's MP.
Admit it. CS is a fantastic game.
But dont worry, i been having alot of neat ideas that can be exploerd in MP. You will see...

I would like a game where you actually have to be carefull not to die.

Hehe I think you're right agent, although there are some people who genuinely hate cs. The beauty of cs is that it can be played on a very artificial "run-jump-shoot" level but it also has plenty of depth for those willing to explore it, and they will be rewarded for doing so. Simple to learn, difficult to master.

No, actually I don't care that much about MP, I'm glad there is something at least, but I will buy HL2 for the SP.

I just don't like unrealistic action in a realistic shell --> I don't like CS.

If the CS crew don't have 6 digits in the bank, I'd be shocked.

But yeah, good on 'em.

i wanna know where the hell mihn le is or whatever gooseman's name is

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm really glad to notice I'm not the only one who understands this.
