I have a rather old computer (well its not mine, but lets pretend it is because the school doesnt treat her the way she deserves) that I'm looking for some uses for. Its on a quick connection, at the least a T1, probably a T3... whatever, i'm not sure when or if our school district is going to upgrade.

ANYWAY. Pentium 3 450, 256mb of ram, and a 6gb hard drive. Whoopdeedoo. The point is, its on a fast connection. I threw a barebones linux, ideal for hosting, on its antiquated self so if it was to host say, a cs 1.6 server, what would be a ballpark figure of players it could host? if you guys think its a little underpowered i can always use it as a personal file server. it just seems like a shame to waste the schools connection.

Rip it apart, Sell the CD drive, RAM sticks... I don't know.

How much would you spend for a 6gb (72? probably 5400 rpm) hard drive? how much would you spend for pc -1000000 ram? I can tell you that I wouldent pay much for it.

it has no money value, maybe u would have to pay yourself to get rid of it because it's problem waste :D
the problem with computers is that they have no re-sell value after they are out of date... :dozey:

u'll just have to use it as a text editor/web browser/mirc comp :)

personally, id keep it for dedicated servers for cs1.6, as u mentioned. its also the kind of computer you would leave running on all night to download stuff :P it doesnt need as much power as todays computers, and it probably doesnt need much of a fan so it will also be quiter. might wanna hunt around for a bigger hard disk, but not that big.

Yeah definatly couldnt sell it, my main question is how would it hold up hosting maybe a 12 player cs1.6 server? or even day of defeat.

I'd just use it as a personal server.

Get a bigger hard drive and you're good to go :)
