Annoying white box glitch

When ever I see a light in half life there is a strange white box with an x in it. It's like i'm in a debug mode or something strange. Any ideas for a fix? Its really annoying to see boxes all over the screen.

If you got it on Steam, you could validate integrity of game cache

Is it the first HL game and what is your system specs?

It is HL 2 I attempted to validate the integrity of the game cache but no luck. I have a ATI Mobility radeon 9600 pro turbo. I also tried to reinstall but its still giving me the boxes.

I remember seeing this problem a long time ago here, but I don't remember what I'd have to search for. but it does exist!

i dont know what the solution was though... It was a legal copy and the console
