This girl just admitted she was, she is my good friend, and I knew she had an eating disorer but she never actually confronted me about it. I always wondered why her arms were so skinny and why I never see her eating. Then one day I cracked a joke and said to a pal "have you considered bulemia" when he said his pant size (he's a skinny guy and we joke alot) and she was there and got really pissed at me. A few days later day she looked all distrought and pale and sickly and I asked her why she was sick and she says I hardly eat and when I do I barf it up. What are you're experiences with eating disoders and how have they effected your lives? (I mean in family/friends) not necisarily you. Man though it's sad I know it's a control issue and whatever and not a food issue. I dont know what to say to her so it just hasn't come up and we are still good friends at school or whatever but I worry about her sometimes. This alongside like 3 girls telling me they cut themselves people telling me they cut what's next... I need to go kill a mime or something

Sorry to hear that, i remember like in grade 8 (around that) most girls went around saying they were gonna slit there wrist's, just to get attention and to get out of classes (our school to it very seriously because a head house captain commited suicide 2 years before that) man that annoyed me. I hope your friend gets better though

Sorry to hear that. I would encourage you to advise your friend to get counseling if she isn't already. She needs to try to get to the heart of the issue and work through this problem. I have never had Anorexia or Bulemia, but I have had some experience with eating problems associated with mental health. It's not fun. I hope you can offer her some help.

Some people (often younger people) feign depression, suicidal behavior, or other mental health problem for attention, yes. However, many are not doing this out of any desire for attention. It's very dangerous in my opinion to label anyone as an attention seeker when you have no idea what is really behind the problem. If they have a mental illness the last thing they need is to have it ignored on the basis that they just want attention. Better safe than sorry.

I know but the people I was refering to tend to be fiegning, I know the one that is truly ill and I try to support/help her as much as possible. But thanks for the imformative post. The girl is already seeing a therepist that she likes. ( the anorexic/bulemic one)

It was an inappropriate thing to say, but for some reason I laughed. I dunno why, maybe its because of my sleep deprived state. I always laugh at stuff much harder when i'm tired.
