I am quite pissed after 2 evenings trying to install the damn game. I simply can t install Half-Life 2. When the first CAB is being decompressed, I get the error:
------
error 1335, HL2.CAB is required and is corrupted. This may be caused by a bad media, internet connection, or a bad package, etc.
-------

I made sure that I was installing the whole HL package as mentionned in VU GAMES knowledge base but no success. I insured the CD was clean. I also tried

1- Methods 1, 2 and 3 of MS KB
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314810
No success
2- I tried to de-activate the DMA controller
No success
3- I tried to unregister and register again the -msiexec- MS Installer program.
No success

I returned the first game to the store (CD edition) and exchanged it against the DVD edition. The install files are different so I tought I would have a better chance. NO JOY!

One thing I can mention is that if copy a cab file to my HD and I try to uncompress the HL23.CAB file using WINRAR or WINZIP, I also get an error saying that the file is corrupted. It seems that for some reason, my system can't extract those 1Gb size *.CAB files. I can copy the CD to my hard drive with no problem though, so I am sure that the data is OK.

Here is myconfig:

-Brand new laptop, Toshiba P25
-P4 3.2 Ghz with HT tech
-514 Mb Ram / 60 Gb HD
-Nvidia GeForce Go5200 video
-Realtek AC97 Audio
-Symantec AntiVirus, but Auto-protect turned off for the install

I don't know what to try anymore. Anybody hd this error and found a workaround???

I had this problem with the UK dvd release.

It 'cured itself' once I had installed Steam and downloaded the Steam updates. After that the game installed without a problem. Now, if only I could register a Steam account .... :(

Win Service Pack 2 - culprit?

I had the same Error 1335.

After reading an earlier post, which should be a sticky at this point, I deleted Win Service Pack 2, delted Steam and HL2 folders from my registry, and deleted all HL2 folders from my hard drive.

I tried the install again..and, miraculously...it worked.

Good luck.
