I'm very used to UED (Unreal/UT/UT2k3/UT2k4), which for me is perfectly logical. And I see no logic whatsoever in Hammer. I really don't get it at all.
Is it just me or is Hammer infact illogical? o_O
And if so, is there an alterative to Hammer?
If not.. How the hell do you create a basic ****ing room?!

I mapped for Unreal for 5 years.

Hammer makes sense eventually.

When you know both, though, you realize that there are really stupid, illogical things in both editors.

So carving everything out of a giant blob is perfectly logical?

Yeah, just like real life

Most people actually subtract a huge cube then add bits inside it. So it's pretty much just the same as HL and Quake mapping.

I like the Doom 3 Editor. btw: is there a way to use patches in hammer?
No patches. They would be really useful... there must be some reason why they didn't include them.

Creating a room is easy, just select the block tool then drag a box, right-click then create, do this for all the walls/ceiling/floor. Slower to do this compared to Radiant/UEd.

I miss a lot of stuff from UEd. Importing textures is as easy as "File>Import", but in Source you have to convert all the textures to a different format then stick them all in the correct folders. I could have my textures anywhere I wanted with UEd.

It's the same with importing models, File>Import in UEd, but so much more complicated with Hammer/Radiant.

Also, LIGHTING PREVIEW!!!!11. I wouldn't even mind just a basic one without any bounce.

Is their a way to use those editors for halflife2?

Half-life and quake based games have always been an additive world...

Unreal based games obviously have always been a subtractive world...

I'm used to both so i could care less...
