Another trip to valve HQ (7-7-04)

Cool. Thanks for the link :)

Basicly the new news is (at least to me):

- HL2 is a longer game than Gabe expected (coo ).
- Been working on a flashlight that has a lighter ring around a center circle
- takes 2 minutes to first load HL2 (but will be fixed)
- CS:S will keep the same gun animations/textures
- CS:S will have new but similer sound
- The best way for a up and coming game maker is to release a mod
- Their starting early work on their next project, but did not confirm it to be CS2

He also said it looked pretty finished! :bounce: Though there were still a few small bugs apparently.

They better be fricken minuscule, cause I can't take waiting any longer AHHHH *shoots himself*

That article linked above said:
A couple bugs showed their face, however, but they was nothing major.

Not bad bugs

The engineer is putting the charcoal in the hype choo choo and logs in the caboose!

Crap, I don't know, it's 3 in the morning here :x

Also something cool I'd like to contribute, that I asked Eat Fresh:

"Gary just fired one shot, I think for the fun of it. The new model looked really good (CROSSBOW). I was impressed by the graphics from everything I saw. I doubt it will pin enemies to the wall, the steaks in painkiller were huge (a couple feet long) the bolts for the crossbow are relatively small in comparison.

The only time I saw anything getting shot while I as there was when Gary shot the crow out of the sky. I'll let you know if they flintch when I actually playtest it."

so if he playtests it, will he ba allowed to talk about it?

The graphics were good. Really good.

Gary McTaggart showed us a couple antlions up close. When he showed us the wireframe, it didn't look like they were exactly high poly or anything, but textured with the normal mapping they looked amazing. Crazy attention to the small details. They have little ridges and indentations all along the exoskeleton, and it looked amazing under the flashlight because the normal mapping can cast self shadows. The area he showed us this in was inside a pipe that had bolts all along the seams. The bolts and the seams were both normal mapped, adding to the effect.

Self shadowing normal mapping, nice.

I better be playing this game by the time school starts...

This kind of thing makes getting ATI cards or more specifically the X800 so worthwhile.
