I have HL2 set on 4x but when I switch to 6x it looks worse (more jaggies) well anyway, the reason I post is because when I go into my nVidia options under anti-aliasing it give the options 2x 2xQ 4x and 8xS (no 6x, maybe thats why it looks more jaggie, like my card doesn't support it) what is 2xQ and 8xS?

I have a FX 6800GT

I have no idea what the 2xQ and the 8xS refers to but yeah, basically, the 6800GT doesn't support AA 6x.

I would assume that 8xS would be better than 6x would normally be, but whether or not HL2 supports that, I dunno.

Yeah Nvidia cards don't support 6x, only ATi cards. Nvidia cards have 8xs instead of 6x, 2xq is the quality of 4x but you get about the same performance as if you were running 2x so that's a good thing, and there's not worse quality than normal 4x.

thanks

2xQ is 'quincunx' or something. It is a different algorithm used for AA, different from multi-sampling and Supersamling. Ther are some cases and some games where there is a noticalbe difference IIRC, but in most cases it looks good without a big performance hit...
