the mesh is complete after 2 hours, and a further 30 minutes of tweaking. I also textured the head partially, the rest of the maps are being done at the moment... . Each seperate colour co-ordinated part is for each individual new texture . if for some reason you want to know why ive set it up like that, its basically cause its all one mesh, so its colour co-ordinated for the maps, so i get the leg texture on the legs, etc:).

Its all one mesh because its simpler to rigg the Antlion Guard with bones like this, to make him an animateable character. which I intend to do later along with those fin like things on his back. (which are seperate because I figured they would be fiddly otherwise)

That's really good. Did you use the concept from the DX9 affects movie? Can't wait till it's all skinned.
 
i used video stills to reference the textures already done. and the mesh. infact i extracted the exact colour of the skin using the eye dropper tool. :) which is always the best way to get the right colour. But on the whole the rest of the textures are shaped the way I drew them
 
the body is too skinny, add a little bulk to it.
Otherwise awsome model.
 
That's a very accurate depiction, but don't forget the feathers/antennas. :)
Awesome work on the model so far, given the lack of good references currently avaliable.

Looking VERY good clarky. If i were to have only one crit, it would be that the texture seemed stretched on some parts, as if you were using planer maps on the z axis, or whatever the vertical axis is. Unless this is how it's supposed to look, I haven't checked. Very very nice job though. Keep it up.
 
Nice map. If I were to crit one thing, I would say that the redish triangle shapes were a little too redish, and not enough brown (compared to the maps you already have). Other than that, I think it looks awesome.
 
they seem more of a Maroon colour., infact ill edit some of the maps later. + the gloss makes the maps seem lighter.

Ah, yeah I just hadn't seen that video in a while. I was merely juding it on the maps you had already made. Good luck.
 
Really great modeling job! The diffuse color is good too, but it definitely could use a specular level map, and maybe some light reflection with a HDRI. His skin is too much like velvet right now, but keep up the excellent work!
 
fully mapped. just the mouth and whisker like bits under his head to do. Then its time to tweak around with the light effects and skin. I also need to rigg it with bones.
 
lol. gotta practice humans. might hav a go actually. .. so, dress her in her outfit? or sumthing else.....:) lol
 
more gloss added. might need to reset the maps and make them reflective to achive the same effect in the source demo. or there and abouts
 
Looks awesome.. yeah just a little more slimey looking and its great!
 
Amazing render! The measurements are spot on; it looks just like the "real thing." :thumbs:

It will be interesting to see what you will do next.
 
Sup clarky. This time I'll actually use a picture to give you crits :). Overall looking very good, just a few minor things to point out....

-circles and dots? on middle section seem to need more contrast ( darker ) compared to the base color
-same goes for the front, make the dark part, darker
-more contrast on the maroon for the legs, maybe a little more redish
-stems for fins need to be darker i think
-fins need to be brighter.
-less specularity on the top part of the legs, more on the two front sections of the body though

All of that is just speculative, I could be wrong :)

Great job man, but your Ant Lion looks even more like a penis than the original. Maybe it's cause of the angles, but those oval shaped arms look like testes.
 
lol, Critisim accepted, it really isnt exactley like valves Antlion guard, im trying too keep away from compromising there trade marks, ;) (specularity appearance all depends on where the lights coming from) .... and lol, it sorta does look like a wang now u mention it :eek:,, but the important fact is .. its not. :bounce:
