Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but dont the antlions look remarkably similar to the spiders in starship troopers film?

Just checked out the animation of that, roughnecks, and it only just clicked. Perhaps i may be a bit slow.:hmph:

I think the similarity was spotted back when the first screens of the antlions were released. Back in...ohhh, 2003?

No difference whatsoever.

2003, come on, only 3 years off...thats like..... ummm.....3 years, nm ignore me

How about comparing them to the Ass-blasters from Tremors: 3?

EDIT: Ehh, maybe not...

ass-blasters????lol
i think that valve was inspired by the warrior arachninds in design...who know?

Antlions are a different colour.
Antlions have 4 legs instead of 6.
Antlions can fly.
Antlions have smaller heads.
Antlions have more 'teeth'.

The ONLY thing the two have in common is the shape of the hind legs.

There were some flying bugs in Starship Troopers though ;)

Heh, I never actually knew what the flying bugs in ST looked like. All I remember from the film was a load of green blurs swooping down on the outpost and one of them splattering that guy across the floor.

Just this second remembered the scene in the canyon with the radio operator, and that showed the flying bugs in a bit more detail. Ahh... good scene.

They're very, very similar, but I doubt Valve was thinking of Starship Troopers when they created them. It's too easy to say, "we need something new, like giant bugs or something fun to shoot."

OMG GORDON AND GMAN HAVE GREEN EYES!!! THEY ARE THE SAME..

*ahem*

duh

It's an obvious ripoff from the Zerg, Starship Troopers etc etc..., duh... Like everything HL2, or Halo 2 or every game for that matter... Doesn't mean it isn't fun...

Everything you've ever seen has been used some place before, so it's a bit pointless finding all the inspiration points for something like HL2. Just enjoy the ride that's presented...

OMG GORDON AND GMAN HAVE GREEN EYES!!! THEY ARE THE SAME..

*ahem*

Gordon and Alyx have the same eyes too, noticed by accident the other day.

Oh and yeah, i think they do look very similar, maybe based the antlions on them

While we're on the subject, there is some weird similarities between HL1 and the 96 Sci Fi movie "The Arrival", Which features a goateed, bespectled physicist in the South West who must deal with an alien invasion.

However, "The Arrival" sucked, while HL1 was excellent.
