Where exactly did the antlions come from? Are they from Xen, or did they come from the Combine world (whatever that is)?

I believe it's assumed that they're from Xen, but that they didn't appear until after the Black Mesa Incident.

Wasn't Xen a bunch of floating islands with low gravity? (as far as I remember)

Doesn't really seem like the best habitat for antlions ...

I'm sure they're from Xen, didn't see them in Black Mesa because there wasn't a... lot of sand... except for the desert and all.

I think they need the ocean as well though.

I'm just offering my thoughts...I really don't know....wait, I have Raisin the Bar! ha HA!

...and it says nothing about the origin of the antlions. Great.

Edit: I DID, however, just realize that in here they show the full model for that Combine thing Breen talks to on the big screen...it's called the "Combine Advisor"...cool.

the part of xen we've seen is a bunch of floating islands...

True… but I get the impression that xen is a “boarder world” between dimensions… so floating islands work well in that context…
I just assumed that the antlions were like cockroaches to the combine… they probably picked them up on who knows what world and couldn’t stop them from tagging along for the ride…

If one of the island in Xen was really huge and sandy, then that's probably where the antlions are from.

I don't believe we've ever been on Xen's main world. What we've seen of Xen doesn't make much sense, and they weren't able to make an alien world too easily, so they just did floating islands. I'm quite sure there's a larger planet where most of these things live. And where headcrabs live (Headcrab + Vortigaunt kthx) I also remember reading before the game came out that Antlions were Xen aliens.

If Xen was primarily a low gravity habitat, which makes a lot of sense for the inhabitants (except maybe the Garg, and if they were used to ow gravity is brings to mind a lot of questions on how they could function well with such a huge gravity increase in our reality, being that they'd be falling over under their own weight...anyway), then I would doubt the Antlions would be Xenian, as their makeup and behavior doesn't suggest being able to thrive in much less than 1g (or 600gs as with the HL universe!). Plus the fact that if they try using their wings in low grav, they'd propel themselves extremely high. Headcrabs, on the other hand, seemed to have exceptional control of low g leaps.

either way, there aliens, simple as that, and there pretty bad at killing combine soliders for ya, so who cares!!! nah, i dont think there from xen as such, because creatures in xen are intelligent mostly, these are mindless beasts, which need a hive mind around em, so i dont think there from xen, i think there just some kinda hyrbrid thingy :p

judging by the fact that ant lions are NOT made up THEY ARE REALLIFE BUGS! then they are prolly just from earth.....as they are in real life look here

quote from that site:

'Do Ant Lions make good pets?
Ant Lions are some of the coolest insects around. When you have an ant lion for a pet, you get a front row seat to one of nature's wildest battles. It's Survival of the Fittest! Ant lions are not only entertaining, but also very educational. You can learn about how insects think, learn, and respond to their environment. If you are looking for a pet that is easy to keep and entertaining for the whole family, then maybe ant lions are for you!'

and from one of their films:

'...here we got shovel, bucket - all usefull tools for hunting the allmighty antlion!!'

Hmm..In Sandtraps, after you kill that Antlion Guard and the vort runs up to you to have a chat, and to extract the pherapods, I think he called the BugBait "myrmiadon pherapods" or something like that. Or maybe I was just hallucinating when he was talking. Forgive me if i'm wrong.

There are no actual proof that antlions are from Xen. They basically showed up in Earth randomly in sametime when the Combines invaded Earth. Coincedence?

I disagree. I think Xen is a gas giant with platforms around it so the creatures can live there, and not just.....float....or something...

Either way, it'd be F*cking retarded if Antlions weren't from either Xen or Earth. HL2 would be introducing WAY too many planets and it's obvious Combine aren't used to them, so they can't be something the Combine accidentally brought with them.
