ok my first post so here we go....Just bought half-life 2 yesterday, awsome game all the way, but i have some problems with graphics. Im running on a Radeon 9600se (yes its crap) and im playing all settings on high and reflect world no aa no af. I ocassionally overclock my card for games. any way, wen im swimming in water or using the boat or somthing, anything around water, i get like land appearing on water but then i go straight through it, like a fake ground or somthing just sitting on the top of the water, somtimes its very dodgy and doesnt look like land at all. Im stuck on wat to do :( any help is wanted.

Also is 60.68 fps good for my card on the stress test with those settings running at 800x600?
Thanks advanced

If your overlocking your video card without extra cooling... that is an extreemly bad idea. It'll cause distoration in graphics... and well, fry you card. It happened to me.

Try setting your video clock back to normal and see if this still happens. Also, make sure you have the latest drivers and DirectX.

Thx for the fast reply, like i said i occassionally overclock my card, its a really crap card anyway, im upgrading just after christmas, but yeh i shall try it with stock standard and see how i go, any ideas if this continues to happen?

yeah underclock it again,a nd play teh game on medium..in using a 9600 XT and it runs wonders on medium :D

Stock speeds will do you well if you set texture detail to medium.

A.) Other than drivers and DX...
You can Validate your HL2 Files: click here
B.) Reinstall the game.
C.) Change your Water and Detail setting. Turn off AA and AF.

thank u all, i just tried stock speeds and well........no luck, this seems to only be happening on water, not bio hazard or anything, so yeh wat do u suggest i do, i change from catalyst 4.12 beta to the latest omega drivers and gained a 20fps increase, but this problem occured before i changed aswell, i dont have aa or af running just trilinear and none. my card can handle the high settings i just get that defectivness in water. do u think changing it from reflect all to reflect world would help?

Try the offical 4.11 drivers.

You'll have to size the image down first, to be =<100KB. Then click the "Manage Attachments" button at the bottom of the posting page.

Ok dont worry i found it, ive highlighted it in green, but its really bad in open areas

ok i tried to get some close ups, this is as best i can do, any closer and they just dissapear until u are "ranged" again

So it seems more like that the land near by is sstretching over... this is usualy due to drive problems... but since your using the 4.11 drives, I'm not sure. It dosent sound like a bug that can be fixed by reinstalling the game, so I wouldent bother with that.
*shrugs* I dunno guy...

well u see i went from 4.11's to 4.12 beta's, and got a slight increase but still that bug, do u think theres a way to set the directX settings to fix it in the control panel BTW im running on the omega beta's at the moment they've done a big inscrease

Oh and sorry wat EXACTLY did u mean by drive problem, like cd drive or somthing?

OK ive narrowed it down to wat the problem is, for some strange reason objects or textures/flooring etc... are appearing as like a holographic image of wats below the water on TOP of the water... Sorry if that isnt clear, but wats under the water apears as a image on top, heres some screenies. Any ideas on y this is happening, ive tried 5 sets of drivers (all cleaned before next install) 4.11 4.12 beta's DNA (catalyst 4.11) DNA (catalyst 4.12 beta's) and Omega (catalyst 4.12 beta's) the omegas seen to work the best

Ok look im in need of help here, plz plz if there is any sugestions that u can giv me relating to my problem plz send them this is getting outa hand along the coast (HL2) im hopeing my screenshots will help

I think you should try turning the 'reflect' setting down. My theory is that the reflect all is killing your card and that's why it's phasing in and out all the time. It has to be worth a try?

thx guys, yes it was the reflect all, but wat a screwy card i had, its gone now and i gots alot better :) so yeh... thanks for ya help much appriciated
