Hi,
I've been having this problem for a while now and just re-installed steam in hopes of it being fixed. However it is not. I can load up any HL2 base engine game and it works fine for maybe 60 or so seconds then freezes and runs the audio into a loop and minimizes.. then is fine (sometimes) for another 60 or so seconds. If anyone knows of a solution or something that could help, anything would be appreciated

intel quad core Q9450
8gb Ram
nvidia 9800 GTX (1gb)
running Windows 7 but had the same problem on vista x32/x64
