Any idea what might be wrong with the graphics card?

I have a GeForce Ti 4200 SE. Well, I bought this card for a quite large amount of money a long time ago. When I installed it, everything was OK, till it started malfunctioning. Green dots appeared everywhere, and then it got worse. Colors wouldn't display correctly and the screen would flicker.

Now, in an attempt to resolve the problem, I installed a new fan (Iceberq Q4 Pro, with heatsinks & thermal grease). The flickering and major bugs haven't showed up yet, but I'm starting to get the green dots all over again, especially in games that demand a lot of graphics (pic attached). I'm afraid it will get totally screwed up and I won't be able to buy a decent gfx card in a while.

What do you think I can do? I've done the driver stuff, everything is OK there, or so I think...

Have you tried reinstalling drivers? What about a reformat?

Lower the core/memory clocks.

ooh i thought about that. How can I do this?

Shamrok: Yeah, I did do a reformat about the same time I reinstalled the geforce, also reinstalled the drivers and stuff. No go though (rhyme not intended).

Maybe It's A Hardware Problem ?
Did You Touched Your Computer Interior Without Static Bands ???
Anyway If This Is The Problem, You Can't Repair, BTW You Should Buy A New Card...
-Radeon 9800 Pro
-GForce Fx 5900Xt

These's Are's At Good Price :)

hmm, no, i didn't overclock it. but i suspect lowering the core clocks would make it more stable.

Yeah try lowering the clocks but maybe it is time for a new card, 9800 pro, forget the 5900xt is sucks.

seriously considering a new card. lowered the ram and clock by 10hz. thanks for the help!

Lowering clock speeds has not much of an effect. I tried lowering the memory speeds on my 9800 pro, and the thing started artifacting like no tommorow.

Looks like a heat issue to me. A card can still overheat if it hasn't been overclocked. Check the circulation on your case. Make sure all of your fans are working and at the correct speed.
