sure it's pretty n all, but it's all extra useless loading. is there a command line parameter to disable it?

Fine the file "valve.rc' (in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\_username_or_email_\half-life 2\hl2\cfg folder) and comment out the last line in the file, so change

startupmenu

to:

//startupmenu

and save the file

Mine is never animated - how do I change it to animated? Do the exact opposite?

That's odd, I thought it was animated by default for everyone

It was initially, then it seems as if it gave up.

EDIT: My problem is exactly the same as Doombringer's. Come to think of it, I don't care that much, but it might be nice.

I enabled the console on my HL2 and do not get the animated menu, just the fuzziness. Before the console, it animated.

You can enable the console in HL2 without losing teh animated menu. I think that only happens when you launch the game with the -console command. Try enabling it through the Options (in the Keyboard tab, click Advanced) and see what happens.

yeah, in play games browser halflife 2 properties > launch options > then add -console

that works
